My brand new AC has broken 3 times in the past 11 months. My one year warranty runs out next month. I already had a standard home inspection, but I thought I should go one step further and get a specialized inspection for the AC unit. Has anyone here had any experience with this?

if you still have a month on your warranty, and the unit has had to be fixed 3 times already in less than a year, i would demand a new unit since the one they gave you obviously has issuesi'm assuming when you got the AC unit installed they gave you a 1 year warranty and you're not talking about some one year warranty on your house...if they say they wont replace the unit, i'd ask for my money back and say fuck themwhat HVAC company is it?]

I am talking about the warranty on my house. I think the AC unit may actually have a two year warranty but I will have to check. It's through Lewis Heating and Air.

oh ok i misunderstood youi'd call Lewis and tell them the deal and see if they'll replace iti'm not positive, but i think it would be separate from a building inspection since not having working AC isnt against building codes[Edited on May 9, 2008 at 11:30 AM. Reason : .]

i'm waiting for your compressor to freeze up and die. your situation is similar to mine.if you do get things replaced, make sure they purge the line with nitrogen and put on a receiver drier to filter things that they didn't clean the first go round. that will make your crap last longer. if they don't purge the lines, then your life is gonna suck later.[Edited on May 9, 2008 at 12:30 PM. ^ That should be standard procedure unless you're hiring incompetent monkeys.

A/C units failing are one of the secret money pits of owning a house... This is apparently the first place builders cut corners on (installing a crappy unit). The next house that I get will have the best warrantied bad ass A/C unit I can afford to install.

^ pretty much.most of the time, the cookie cutter installers won't purge the lines hoping for more maint. fees later on/they don't know any better.

Can I get one on any hvac unit?
5/12/2008 8:28:34 AM
^ No, it's a manufacturer's warranty on their equipment. It's not an aftermarket warranty.
5/12/2008 8:43:23 AM
Oh, well what good does that do me?
5/12/2008 10:11:17 AM
^ It's something to consider if you ever have to replace the system.

It's brand new. I'm hoping not to have to replace it.
