Word out at Cedar Hills tonight was that the 2012 Worlds were going to be in Charlotte and that they were building 5 new courses in the next 4 years or something like that. I know 2012 is a ways away but 5 new courses is good news. Apparently this was decided tonight... I can't find any news about it. Anyway, I thought maybe some of you guys may be interested, especially if you play a lot in the Charlotte area.

^ yeah I love how they try to sell that shit. It's just funny because noone our age really looks at it that way. It's generally a pretty competitive thing, even though we have fun with it. On a different note, someone said that the reason Raleigh Parks and Rec doesn't give us more courses is because they hate us. All the drinking and smoking up on the course as well as the littering issues makes P&R hate us. Again though, this is all word of mouth. We actually had to sign a form saying we wouldn't smoke or drink on the course.

^ Raleigh Parks & Rec has gotten tough on that in the last year or two. They're not the only ones, as Welspring (the wooded course at Cedarock Park in Burlington) was temporarily closed a while back because of booze and litter. Parks & Rec cracking down on that doesn't really bother me, since these are public parks where alcohol is illegal, and there are other people besides disc golfers in both of those parks. If folks really can't play a round of disc golf without a beer or a joint, then they can go play the NC Homegrown Tour of private courses on private land, where no one cares what you do, short of starting a forest fire. However, Parks & Rec has also made it difficult for RADL to install new courses, even when the land has been set aside and RADL was providing (the money for) all the baskets.Worlds in Charlotte would be cool, although I thought it was getting permanently moved to Augusta eventually. Charlotte already has several world-class courses in the area (Renny Gold, Hornet's Nest, Winthrop Gold in Rock Hill) and Sugaw Creek is supposed to be at that level eventually. I've not heard anything official either, but the CDGC (the local club) has been talking about trying to host Worlds again (they had it there in 1996) for quite some time.

I remember going to play disc golf with some friends of a friend that were pretty serious about it. I asked one guy which frisbee was mine going to be, and he got all irritated and said "it's not a frisbee it's a disc." I was all whatever dude.
