I have a 98 Sentra that won't start. My g/f got an oil change the other day and they said I need to replace the starter. Is that an easy repair (meaning would I be able to do it myself knowing little about cars)?

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_replace_the_alternator_on_a_1998_Nissan_SentraHmm... Well that guy didn't like the sound of it. You could probably save a lot of money if you took the job on with a little patience, though. Still, w/o the need/want to buy some parts to be able to do this in the first place you should probably just pay to have it fixed unless you wanna spend the weekend on it.

There is a nissan specialist off of the buck Jones/Jones Franklin intersection by European performance. If you need it towed there and will tow it for you just send like 50.00 my way and I will pick it up from your house and drop it offIts called Choice auto repair if you want to look it up

went to Choice Auto repair and here's the diagnosisthe starter needs to be replacedalternator is charging too high at 16 volts and is suppose to be 13 or 14 volts. That needs replaced soon but not immediately. Those two problems will cost me about $1000. $572 for the alternator and $439 for the starter.not to mention some other bullshit items totaling less than $100.What should I do?
5/5/2008 11:39:27 AM

That sounds really high to me, but maybe it is a time consuming job. You might come out much better by calling around to find someone else to do the work and just paying for the diagnosis. I know ZXAppeal is always recommending Happy Japs for Nissan stuff.
