Seriously considering buying this tomorrow as a daily driver and for weekend fun. I havent really owned a car in the last couple of years and am looking for some fun ideas on what I can potentially do with it.


I'm thinking:
-take the top off permanently
-doors off permanently

Any thoughts on something simple and/or fun to do with this thing?

Also, does anyone have an opinion on these 78-79 Broncos?

I guess you could paint graffiti on it or something. It's a terrible DD just because of the gas mileage IMO, but if you don't plan to put many miles on it then go for it.

Grafitti would be cool, I was thinking one of those stupid soccer ball stickers just to mock all the suburban assholes that park in my lot.

I have a pretty short ride to work, but I didn't even think about gas mileage. What kind of mpg do you think it would get? I would seriously beat the crap out of this thing every chance I got

78-79's are about the best of the fullsize broncos in my opinion. d44 solid front, 9 inch rear, c6 or np435, 205 t-case, etc. best of the best in terms of drivetrain parts.

what engine does it have? guessing 351 or 400 probably?

definitely ditch the top doors, but you might want to at least hang onto them for resale value. or, if you don't have room for the bulky top sell it and then buy a soft top.

get some $1 spray paint from wal mart or lowes and paint it.

the sky is the limit if you want to build it for off roading.

driving the crap out of (as it should be) will probably get you maybe 8 mpg if it's a 351. little less if it's a 400. that's for around town. maybe 2mpg better on the highway.

a friend of mine used to have this old 80 bronco that some kid had drunk drove into a palm tree in miami. it was pretty bonzer.

^351 I think. Do you think a Dodge Durango could tow this thing home? Would it harm the transmission?

nah, for a short distance a durango would be just fine. i sure wouldn't go taking off through 5 different states or anything though.

ah, yes... the 351m or "modified" motor since it's a mix of cleavland and windsor parts. some say it's also because it was built in ford's michigan plant. solid motor.

All the late 80's/early 90's ones I looked at supposedly got 10 city/12 highway from the factory. I'd imagine a decade older carbeurated version with some mileage on it at high altitude would be at least a little worse. I'm assuming it's carbeurated because of the age.

It's always funny when you see guys with these lifted older Broncos or Grand Wagoneers claiming 17-19MPG on the highway. Fucking douchebags.

most of them are probably full of it, but some choked down 1bbl versions in a stripped out no options truck MIGHT get that if you drove easy and kept it below 60mph. there's always the i6 trucks too. anyway, highly doubtful like you said but not impossible.

Yeah I appreciate the tips on the gas mileage. I'm still probably going to get it just for something fun to drive this summer.

I've reconsidered the DD aspect though and I'm thinking about bidding on this:

oh heall yeah! the little champs are awesome. check out dodge/mitsubishi colts also, same car. my first (well first driving) gf back in high school had one of those things. i was only 14, but she let me drive it once. that was the last time. wonder why?

dodge omnis and plymouth horizons are baller compacts from that era as well.
