What's the most effective method to suggest that the library subscribe to something? The newspapers are cool and all, but they have a whole bunch of crap while at the same time notable exceptions from really important papers that I want to see there.

Did you try asking a librarian what to do?

you can request a purchase from the library website. Don't know if that is "the most effective method" though.

what paper do you want exactly? They have papers from like India and China, plus all the major US markets. I'm sure if you had a valid request and could show that it would be utilized by others, and not just yourself, they would consider it.

Actually I want to get a Japanese newspaper there. And yes, i can get faculty and students to vouch for the usefulness/need.You know, we have Korean and Chinese papers available for anyone to take at the entrance to the library. I don't want to start comparing number of speakers, prominence of languages, etc., but suffice it so say Japanese is of a comparable scale to Korean.Don't get me wrong, I think it's GREAT that we have free Korean literature. In fact, I think that is one language we have sufficiently covered. Plus, we certainly have a LOT of South Korean researchers at NCSU. For Japanese, however, we have one Japanese language journal and then one magazine that had its subscription expire, and one more still going. And, I really don't care what's happening in Chapel Hill as much as say... Garner. That would be more important to me.

Trash the Xbox, and all that expensive new ugly furniture, and half the periodicals in there.
