I used to see that around the moon all the time growing up in NJ (in the winter mostly). Ice crystals.

^x5 right. the sun doesnt actually have that black dot and purple streak to it. its the camera bogging down because its going way over its brightness level and defaults to zero. the halo is pretty cool though.

i've seen the moon version of this several times. never seen/noticed the sun version.
