we're going on our honeymoon and she's going to come by the house and take care of my 3 cats for an entire week. she may or may not sleep at the house, but i've told her she can. i'm going to stock the fridge with booze. she's going to feed them, clean out their poopies, and give them lots of love because they're used to getting lots of attention each day.how much do i pay her to do this? she's one of my bridesmaids, i.e. a pretty close friend, so i'm curious what everyone thinks is reasonable?[Edited on April 29, 2008 at 7:48 PM. i've never paid someone to cat sit, but if she's that close of a friend i'd just ask her what she wants for doing it.
4/29/2008 7:49:37 PM
I usually get like $150-$200 + $50 food stiped for a week to dog sit. I assume the rates would be similar. However, the dog requires walking and like 5 meds at certain times and junk. Adjust accordingly.
4/29/2008 7:50:53 PM
Umm... she's a friend. Take her out for a nice lunch or something. I personally would refuse money from a good friend for doing a favor, but I wouldn't turn down lunch
4/29/2008 7:51:09 PM
just leave the cats a bunch of food and watertell her to come by once and check on themcats don't need fucking sitters
4/29/2008 7:51:14 PM
thats the point of having friends. take her out or bring her something back from the honeymoon.
4/29/2008 7:52:29 PM
when i took care of my neighbor's dogs in high school for a week i got like 20 or 40 bucksthat's probably about right^^that too, cats are pretty self sufficient. our neighbor (back home) now wanted us to cat sit her kittens, just to go over and play with them a couple times a day. obviously, grown cats aren't very playful, so just a check on the litter box or maybe throwing something at them to get them to move should be enough.[Edited on April 29, 2008 at 7:56 PM. haha cat people
4/29/2008 8:14:25 PM
if you're a pet owner then you should take responsibility and make sure they are taken care of when you leave town for 7 days. it's cruel to leave them alone for days on end with no human interaction, especially when they're so used to having that kind of interaction on a daily basis.besides, if you leave 3 cats by themselves for 7 days you'd have to leave like 10 litter boxes for them. [Edited on April 29, 2008 at 8:15 PM. Reason : xx]
4/29/2008 8:15:27 PM
you don't leave them by themselves, noyou have someone come in once or twice a day and clean the boxes, fill the water, and check the food. cats aren't exactly known for their human interaction. what do you do with your cats that they would go insane for not seeing you for a week? they have plenty of entertainment between themselves anyway.
4/29/2008 8:18:13 PM
^6his family (tschudi) has 7 cats and they do in fact leave them alone when they go on vacation. however like 4 of them are outside cats and don't interact with people anyway and the other inside cats don't really interact with people either. it'd be hard to go over and play with them. they do leave like 10 litter boxes and their house is so huge that if you went to find the cats you wouldn't be able to. i know because they DID have someone to come check once over a period of like 4 or 5 days and that someone was me. i just went and made sure they all had water and i petted the ones that came near me. tried to find the other ones, couldn't, and left.[Edited on April 29, 2008 at 8:19 PM. ^well, guess what? my cats are the exact opposite. when they hear a key in the door they come running, and they meow at you when you walk in the door, they rub on your legs and follow you around, and headbutt you until you pet them. they're very personable and sweet - so i refuse to leave them alone for 7 days without having someone give them the attention they deserve everyday.my kitties get so much attention, they really are attention whores. they love to cuddle, and i just can't bear the thought of them being without any personal human time for 7 days straight. we paid our friend with booze and free range of our video games. when i do it "professionally" i ask $10-15/day, depending on the duties.
4/29/2008 8:20:17 PM
exactly, there's not much to taking care of cats. fuck, most of them bolt when they see someone they don't know.
4/29/2008 8:21:11 PM
but i agree, i don't leave my cat alone because she is super needy. like SUPER needy. i would feel bad. but it def depends on the cat. if you own like an 11 year old cat, it is probably fine to just chill for a few days (that is what tschudi's parents have).but in your situation if you stocked the fridge with booze i'd say pay her gas money and either take her out to a nice dinner when you get back or just give her like $50. i mean she's a friend, friend's should do it for FREE! i'd say the booze would be enough!
4/29/2008 8:21:56 PM
YOU GONNA GET ROBBED
4/29/2008 8:23:44 PM
i've never seen a cat that needs much more than a ton of water/food sat out for 2-3 days EASY.. theyre nothing maintenance wise compared to dogs and prices should not be compared imo
4/29/2008 8:24:17 PM
$5 per cat per day
4/29/2008 8:25:29 PM
your friends are GONNA ROB YOUR ASS BLIND
4/29/2008 8:26:52 PM
youre not funny
4/29/2008 8:27:25 PM
goodness..i'd think like $10 a day would be almost too much. it's not like you have to walk cats or anything...
4/29/2008 8:29:53 PM
i want me a catbut yeah i agree that you dont need to baby sit cats, just check on them once a day or every other day
4/29/2008 8:39:36 PM
I use to dog sit (for family friends who had 5 little dogs) and I would get something like $20 a day. I'd go over twice a day to let the dogs out, feed them, and hang out with them. I usually would get a drink and watch some TV while playing fetch. It was fun and easy money. Just a little annoying sometimes to take time out of my day to drive over there because it was a little out of the way.
4/29/2008 8:43:47 PM
I did this for a friend recently, they left beers in the fridge, took me out to lunch, and gave me a small bottle of nice vodka.I would have done it for free, but they insisted.I'm sure she won't care what you give her being she is one of your best friend (bridesmaid) and this is your honeymoon. Cats are very easy to take care of so I wouldn't go overboard with what you give her (lunch, food/drink at the house, and maybe a tank of gas).[Edited on April 29, 2008 at 8:51 PM. Reason : .]
4/29/2008 8:46:12 PM
Put cats outside.Put bowl of food/water outside.Ask friend to check bowl every other day.Profit.It not to hard to take care of a cat.
4/29/2008 8:52:57 PM
dnl dog sits so I am sure he will cat sit for you
4/29/2008 8:53:30 PM
nah dnl is currently completely unemployed
4/29/2008 8:53:54 PM
i'm not so sure i like the idea of a tdubber house/cat sitting for me
4/29/2008 8:54:37 PM
cat sitting would be easier than dog sitting, cats just sleep all day.....kinda like a stuffed toy.
4/29/2008 8:54:59 PM
yea they sleep a lot, but they're super friendly and deserve lots of love and attention
4/29/2008 8:56:14 PM
I'm so glad you aren't asking any wolfwebbers to do this.
4/29/2008 8:57:15 PM

inside cats don't have fleas and stay alot cleaner
4/29/2008 9:08:55 PM
^My cat requires flee drops once a month and knows how to clean himself. Plus i don't have to pay people to cat sit.

we're gonna have to agree to disagreebut secretly, we all know i'm right
4/29/2008 9:10:38 PM
yah i'd say around 10 bucks a day and a lunch when you get back should be plenty. especially if you're leaving shit for her to drink/eat while she's over there.
