they have really strict requirementsGENERAL GUIDELINESTo give blood for transfusion to another person, you must be healthy, be at least 17 years old or 16 years old if allowed by state law, weigh at least 110 pounds, and not have donated blood in the last 8 weeks (56 days) or a donation of double red cells in the last 16 weeks (112 days). "Healthy" means that you feel well and can perform normal activities. If you have a chronic condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure, "healthy" also means that you are being treated and the condition is under control. Other aspects of each potential donor's health history are discussed as part of the donation process before any blood is collected. Each donor receives a brief examination during which temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood count (hemoglobin or hematocrit) are measured. Making donations for your own use during surgery (autologous blood donation) is considered a medical procedure and the rules for eligibility are less strict than for regular volunteer donations. ...So you're just gonna post a bunch of conditions, and no more information Most of those aren't blanket exclusions, so I don't know why you'd simply copy and paste a list without providing more information. At least for tattoos and piercings, if they're done at a licensed NC parlor, you can donate at Rex. I don't deal with the triangle red cross, so I can't speak to whether they use that rule, too.

4/29/2008 10:38:35 AM
I've 'donated' at the red cross off of new bern avenue many times. technically the blood was for me and the pints that were left over were put into circulation. Never had a problem.

i just gave up on donating blood because it takes me 30-45 minutes to give a pint of blood...then the red cross blows my shit up for weeks afterwards...i mean really....I can't give anymore blood for a while....why keep callilng
4/29/2008 10:43:59 AM
Yea, it was the tattoo in CT thing. Last time they let it slide, guess they needed blood more last time I donated.

ugh i remember all the girls in the leadership class in high school who had just turned 17 and gave blood and kept trying to get me to do it, too. they were all talking about how they passed out and stuff and it just didnt seem very appealing to me.besides, i'm like AB+. Nobody wants my blood. haha

Don't feel too bad. I'm permanently banned from donating due to possible Mad Cow exposure:

they act like they have tough guidelines but they are not all that tough...i donated like 3 months after getting a tattoo and they didnt even notice that i checked the box saying i hadnt gotten a tattoo in the past 12 months

I can't donate unless they have a really low stock of my blood. My veins are so hard to find, and my blood flows so slow that it will clot in the tube

i'm a type-o hero!
4/29/2008 1:15:46 PM
I'm a universal donor, but I HATE needles
4/29/2008 1:38:56 PM
I love giving blood and have been doing fairly regularly since I was 17. I've had a couple of times when I wasn't eligible, but overall, it's been easy to be eligible. I gave on the REX bus a couple of weeks ago and I have to say they did an awesome job. I mean I love the Red Cross and have volunteered for them several times, but REX got people in and out and seemed a bit more organized.

I won't say I love giving blood but I do it pretty frequently. And by 'blood', I mean 'platelets'. They can take a triple donation from me And I'm B-, so they kind of like my blood. But they like my dad more (O-)I asked one day 'anything more I can do to help?'Them: "Yeah. Start giving platelets" w00t
