4/28/2008 10:16:22 PM
Never heard of them getting in the boat, but I knew a guy who had the ass end of his jet ski gnawed up pretty bad. They love chewing on that dense foam I guess.
4/28/2008 10:16:31 PM
^^ they dont have an otter patrol running around 24 hours checking every damn boat^ chewed the fuck out of my seats, think they use the shit for their dens or something[Edited on April 28, 2008 at 10:17 PM. Reason : j]
4/28/2008 10:17:04 PM
citric acid spray?(cheap and non-toxic -- might not work, but is worth a shot)
4/28/2008 10:17:43 PM
well if you have a problem they are in the boat businessyou ask them what to do?
4/28/2008 10:17:53 PM
Boat float.
4/28/2008 10:18:28 PM

4/28/2008 10:18:53 PM
i would think that otters would prefer the water.i guess i thought wrong.
4/28/2008 10:19:05 PM
my step dad used the sour apple flavored Keep Off dog repellent on his boat to keep animals out, it worked like a champ.you can probably get it at pet smart or somewhere like that. It just smells and tastes like sour apples and the animals don't like it.]
4/28/2008 10:19:07 PM
^ tell me more
4/28/2008 10:19:54 PM

4/28/2008 10:22:04 PM
Kill one otter and put its head on a stake in your boat. Show them who's boss.
4/28/2008 10:22:30 PM
^^ on purpose^ ha
4/28/2008 10:23:08 PM
This stuff works pretty well against most common animal pests like raccoons and rabbits. I just googled otter repellent and a page came up hawking it as working for that purpose. You can pick it up at lowe's or home depot. If I remember correctly the main ingredients are mostly capsaicin in various forms. comes in spray and granular, may be worth a try.
4/28/2008 10:29:22 PM
thanks
4/28/2008 10:29:58 PM
but the whole head on a stake thing would probably be a bit more fun
4/28/2008 10:31:28 PM
keep your boat in dry dock
4/28/2008 10:32:18 PM
4/28/2008 10:35:49 PM
^^ yeah, I will park it inside my condo
4/28/2008 10:37:25 PM
"im thinking about buying a boat this year!"
4/28/2008 11:06:54 PM
you dont have a cover for it? or will they chew through that also?what kind of boat? how easy are the seats to remove? how often do you use the boat?
4/28/2008 11:10:08 PM
LMAO! otters???i guess get a pretty good cover for your boat...my dad has a giant sailboat that he keeps @ a lake but all the seats and stuff are inside the boat....no need for otter control there.
4/29/2008 12:24:52 AM
4/29/2008 12:25:57 AM
I have a cover, they can chew threw it and have, cant remove all the seats... I am not a fucking moron people
4/29/2008 12:27:25 AM
rat trapsyou know, those huge, jumbo mousetrapsput them on the seats and anywhere else you think the otters might stepthey stopped my old Great Dane from digging up the yard, so I bet they'll stop otters.
4/29/2008 4:07:20 AM
That doesn't fuck up a great dane's paws?
4/29/2008 4:10:52 AM
it didn't in our casei was a kid, don't remember who told us to try it...i think it might've actually been a vet, but i don't know.i do remember that it got the message across pretty quickly--the digging stopped very shortly after putting them out on his preferred digging spots.you know what, come to think of it, i think we bought the bigass huge rat traps, but chickened out/thought better of it and ended up just trying regular mousetraps first.[Edited on April 29, 2008 at 4:20 AM. Reason : for the otters, get the biggest, meanest traps you can find! ][Edited on April 29, 2008 at 4:20 AM. Reason : whichever it was, it worked great.]
4/29/2008 4:18:21 AM

4/29/2008 12:45:47 PM
lake people are an honest folk... and otters have gotten into dry docked boats plenty of times
4/29/2008 12:46:15 PM
4/29/2008 1:23:41 PM
No, just kill the otter and mail a fish wrapped in a newspaper to his friends.
4/29/2008 1:50:08 PM
What about that mouse trap paper that is really sticky. That way when you come back, they'll all still be there and you can deal with them as you wish If you wanna be truly evil you could just put out rat poison on your boat.
