why? it's not like Hinske has been playing badly. An fat old player isn't what that team wants. They already have Cliff Floyd

just wishful thinking

i'd love to see the Rays get more than 5000 people in the stands. and that's a great way to do it (#1 and #18 on the HR list). well, that and winning games couldn't hurt

The Jays are like a panicked fantasy owner

but he was gonna get 10 mil next year if he got 376 PA's this year

so they were being smart in that respect by benching him

but they still have to shell out 8M even if he signs with another team

He should just call it quits to stay above .300 for his career

Interesting Fact*: Frank Thomas has the most plate appearances by any player to have never had a sacrifice hit. He just passed Harmon Killebrew this week, so I'm sure he's thankful that the Blue Jays afforded him that opportunity.

*Fact may not be very interesting.

^sacrifice bunt maybe? i don't think there is such thing as a sacrifice hit.

i wonder if the blue jays are interested in bonds now?

That's a sacrifice fly according to statistical conventions. Up until the 1950s (I think), sac hits and sac flies were considered the same thing.

never heard it referred to that way, it's kind of a misnomer.

Not really, from the BR Glossary:

Quote :
"# SH - Sacrifice Hits or Bunts (were first counted in 1895 and includes Sac Flies until 1953)
# SF - Sacrifice Flies (were first counted in 1954, prior to that they were included in Sac Hits)"

Here's the list of players with no SH, ordered by PA. It's a week old or so, Thomas has 9857 PA now.

sure, and the 7 year age difference does not matter.

Thomas is 40 in May, hitting .160 when he was last playing, and in 2 of the last 4 full seasons played less than 75 games. This is what happens when players should retire.

no shit, I'd say NC residents are probably some on the most knowledgeable baseball fans in the country....espcially out of the states that don't have a MLB team

Big Hurtie was a homer shy of the cycle last night! Talk about effort to run out a triple -only Vlad or Manny could possibly be slow enough in the OF to let Big Frank run out a triple...

I wonder what the Blue Jays are saying about him right now???

it was Vlad but Frank got a very lucky bounce...Frank's 8th career triple...CAREER

Vlad would've gunned his ass out at 2nd if he hadn't gotten an unlucky bounce off the outfield walls

HA, I didn't even read this part of the post until now.

Vlad isn't that slow. he's lost a step or two, but he's still good for a consistent 15 steals a year. And it wouldn't matter if he didn't even have legs, he's got one of the best outfield arms ever.

And Manny plays left, he would have to die out there (or figure out a way to cut off his own throw) to let Frank Thomas get a triple.
