Try some St. Bernardus Prior 8, they used to be a trappist ale, but arent anymore, but still use the same recipe. Its by far my favorite beer.
4/20/2008 8:03:12 AM
^^^ You've obviously never had a good Belgium beer.
4/20/2008 8:46:48 AM
Has anybody tried Hell's Belle? Great Belgian beer and it's local so it doesn't cost $Texas!!!

once the cap was poppedthere was this whole fascination with the trappist beers, that turned into a fad.that's all it is, itll die down
4/20/2008 10:02:52 AM
actually i'll agree i've yet to have a belgian beer i like at all.. i don't like the whites i don't like the trappist i can't really think of one i do like.... i like dark beer and REDICULESLY hoppy beer.
4/20/2008 10:04:51 AM
negative, ghost ridertrappist beers are trendy at the moment, but the quality can't be ignored. It's the same as the Lamborghini Diablo in the 80s... very trendy, but that's because it was awesome, not because a bunch of elitists thought it would be "cool."Personally, though, I can't have more than 1 or 2 Trappists... but I will say that Belgian White beer is the best in the world.
4/20/2008 10:30:47 AM
see... hence i like none of them... we have different taste in beer.
4/20/2008 10:35:36 AM
that's true. its certainly not for everyone. plus, i really wasn't into beer all that much until I went to Belgium 2 years ago and spent some time in Ghent. My love affair started then... through college I was mostly a liquor man...
4/20/2008 10:37:18 AM

4/20/2008 10:42:50 AM
also belgians cost like twice as much as Busch Litebut you get two or three times as much alcohol per beer, so I think it evens out!

I <3 hops. can't have too much!I like strong flavored beers. None of the subtle flavors, I just can't taste those.
4/20/2008 11:04:56 AM
you can always have too much of something
4/20/2008 11:16:56 AM
maybebut I've never had a beer and said, "oh my stars and garters, this beer has far too many hops for my delicate constitution!" ]

I like hoppy beers, but this is one that was almost unpleasant to drink when I first had it. It's burn isn't bad after you have had one or two but that first sip had me saying, "holy shit, I'm not sure if this is even pleasant." Apparently it changes a bit every year, and I haven't had it recently so maybe it's been balanced out a bit since then.[Edited on April 20, 2008 at 11:24 AM. Reason : .]

lol, you're right!haha I don't understand college kids that eat ramen noodles, but yet bitch about the type of beer they drink
4/20/2008 11:27:17 AM
eh, I don't think the ramen noodle crowd ventures too far up the shelf past busch light. I get annoyed with beer nerds/elitists, but I do enjoy a variety of beers and I like to discuss that interest with like minded individuals at times.
