The search feature is broken... I type in Deli and it gives me an "oh shit internal error"So, When I was working in Baltimore we would regularly go to one of several deli's (Aviation being my favorite for NGC peoples)... they had really awesome unique sandwiches and you got a meal for ~$8 which is fine for a working stiff or a grad student who's treating himself on the weekend...I tried Village deli just a few minutes ago and it kinda sucked... good components, bad follow through My turkey and swiss on wheat was just dry for the most part. The deli sandwich menu was pretty limited too.So my favorite sandwich at Aviation was "the aviation" and I can't even remember what all was on it but just remember it looking small but being REALLY awesome... had either a russian or french dressing on it...Where can I get a GOOD deli sandwich with lots of choices and selection. Grocery store deli's count b/c Grauls in Annapolis had some of the best sandwiches in town...

the village deli used to be so cooleven after the first renovation it was cozynow it ain't

I have heard (no experience though) that that Vietnamese place in Mission Valley had good sandwiches. The person said that because Vietnam was under French control for so long they make a lot of sandwiches on french bread etc.

I, seemingly unlike the rest of the world, do not like toasted sandwiches. I consider a deli sandwich to be on standard bread (so not french bread, too tough). Not $0.99/loaf stuff but the slightly better $2.99/loaf 2:1 aspect ratio bread. And there are countless places to get a sub.... I'm looking for an actual sandwich.Jason's deli probably gets an honorable mention but it's pretty far away and I'm somewhat looking for a hole in the wall.
4/19/2008 12:59:16 PM
i've never heard anyone refer to the aspect ratio of breadgg
4/19/2008 1:05:08 PM
I'd second Jason's even if it is far away. I've never been but have you looked at Carolina Cafe? Seems from the outside it's a like an independent version of Panera Bread, but thats just me.[Edited on April 19, 2008 at 2:05 PM. Reason : .]

Dalat in mission valley does make some good sandwiches, particularly if you are a vegetarian Its pretty cheap too, 6.50 for a foot long

sadlack's definately fits the bill for "hole in the wall"you can get good cheap normal sandwiches at the harris teeter deli

I used to work at the Deli before they fired me. I think that there chicken salad and some of the grilled stuff is really good . They also have great subs.Just don't spend money on the extravagant stuff like cokes and chips. There prices are high, so just settle with a water and sandwich if you will be there a bunch. Also, if you go in there between 4-6 you can get some generous deals on sandwiches.Oh, Don't EVER work there. The management sucks and people will take advantage of you.
4/20/2008 6:00:39 PM
they have sandwiches in the EB1 cstore i think
4/20/2008 6:19:35 PM
i also vote for jason's deli. it's too bad that you didn't like village deli. i've always loved their honey cured ham on either a croissant or focaccia and some potato salad. the whole foods/fresh market/whatever it's called on faircloth & wade makes some pretty good sandwiches for 6 or 7 bucks. they actually have a lot of good prepared foods.
4/20/2008 8:41:49 PM
i used to go to sadlack's and i loved their foodbut it just got to the point that i felt like if you weren't a regular by 1983, they don't want you in there i haven't been to village deli in ages...mostly because of the restrictive interior space...great sandwiches....guess i'll buzz by and see how big it is since they expanded

there are no good deli's in Raleigh. Just one of those things you have to learn to deal with. Anyone who's from the north, or even the midwest knows what I'm talking about. Horowitz's in Cary was the closest thing we had to a real deli but they closed
4/22/2008 11:28:07 AM
Food Factory in downtown Cary is really good. Probably just as close to campus as some places in Raleigh.^I think FF is pretty similar to a New York deli (since the owners are from new york), if you've never been there[Edited on April 22, 2008 at 11:35 AM. Reason : ]

4/22/2008 11:42:32 AM
Conti's Italian Market has some good cold cuts from what I hear. But idk if they sell sandwiches.
4/22/2008 12:12:26 PM
^^^no, never even heard of it. may have to check it out. The main difference down here is the meats that the deli's use (besides the fact that all the "deli's" here skimp on their meat big time). Most just use boar's head, which is fairly generic. Not to mention you don't get the same quality bread, cheese's, etc. All the deli's use the same food distributor, so basically they're all the samethat said, I like ruddino's grinders[Edited on April 22, 2008 at 12:13 PM. Wait... it can't be Delis b/c thats another word, The full word is Delicatessen, so in order to write the plural of an abbreviation that ends in a vowel, wouldn't you need an 's ?or is that not what the grammar police are harping on? it is delis... I'm wrong(I suck hardcore at grammar... good thing I know a thing or 2 about V=IR )[Edited on April 22, 2008 at 12:28 PM. 4/22/2008 12:13:37 PM
I'd kill for a kosher deli around here.If you want to haul ass out to Charlotte, Katz's Deli is very good.
4/22/2008 2:28:54 PM
Carolina Cafe is pretty good. They have a soup, sandwich, chips & drink combo for about $7 that is plenty to fill me up.And TWW...Please stop mentioning The Rockford. That is one of my favorite places and the wait times just get worse and worse every year. So, from this point on, let The Rockford go unmentioned on TWW. We'll all be better off if there aren't a bunch of TWW losers there anyway.
4/22/2008 2:55:15 PM
i've found myself w/ the same problem. i want a deli run by jews who own it, where someone takes my order and makes it on the spot. not anything like jason's deli or village deli.
4/22/2008 4:07:50 PM
^jason's deli makes a sandwich 'on the spot' unless they've changed in the last few months. Probably the same with VD.
4/22/2008 5:03:17 PM
it's too much like a quiznos, not enough like a family owned deli.and it's stupid expensive.

On a side note, is there anywhere in NC that makes a decent muffaletta? The one at Jason's Deli barely even qualifies for the name.
