I was stopped by a county mountie for suspicion of impersonating a law enforcement vehicle. I drive a crown victoria and yeah, there's a CB antenna on the trunk, but I don't have blue lights or any insignia. He claimed he thought he saw a badge on my jacket, which was actually my cellphone clipped to the seatbelt. I think the assclown was just bored. Anyway, 5 more cop cars showed up and I was asked repeatedly if I had badges or weapons and was grilled about my registration. You bet your ass I refused to let them search. The whole ordeal took 45 minutes. My question is, is my plate somehow flagged now in the computer system, even though no arrest or citation was made, to alert other patrol cars to hassle me if they get behind me? I'm wondering if I should transfer title to my wife and get a new plate.

haha. this thread finally gets made.

i whistled for a cab...
4/16/2008 5:34:30 PM
the fact that you didnt have blue lights shouldve caused them to go along on their merry ways
4/16/2008 5:34:32 PM
it's flagged but only at disneyworld.

okay, sowhen an officer requests a lookup on your plate he asks the center to do sothey look up your plate in DCIthe only "flags" that can be on there are called "hits"you get a hit in DCI if the plate or car has been reported stolen or the registered owner is wanted for some crime and the agency that issued the warrant has requested a DCI hitother than that, the dispatcher doesn't have any info like that nor will they say anything like that...[Edited on April 16, 2008 at 5:49 PM. Reason : of course the cops could just remember your plate number]
4/16/2008 5:46:21 PM
What a bunch of cockhole cops.
4/16/2008 5:49:07 PM
did you refuse to let them searchO wait u answered that question
4/16/2008 5:51:42 PM
Ironic because you were trying to impersonate a cop, your shit got stolen, and then you got pulled.Anyways, I heard this on the radio this morning. A 19 year old security guard in my town "arrested" some dude TP'ing a house and hilarity ensued.
4/16/2008 5:58:12 PM
you have flagged yourself by trying to drive around looking like a cop. they don't need a computer system to see that flag.
4/16/2008 6:03:46 PM
4/16/2008 6:14:26 PM
You should have blown them out for compromising your undercover work.
4/16/2008 7:04:43 PM
You sound like a tool for driving that car. Why do you try to look like a cop?
4/16/2008 7:06:13 PM
the real question is, did any of them verbally attack your wife?
4/16/2008 7:07:39 PM
i've heard about these blue light bandits that pull over unsuspecting women on country roads and rape them...because they can't get any otherwise. Now we have a name, raleighboy.
4/16/2008 7:22:32 PM
he was correct for pulling you over for suspicion, but he took about 30 minutes too long to let you gobig deal
4/16/2008 7:25:00 PM
I really don't think having an extra antenna gives anyone reasonable suspicion to stop me. I see a lot of cars with CB antennas, the fact that it's a crown vic shouldn't be a factor. Oh, he also tried to say that the little compass in the windshield looks like a camera - there are just layers of stupidity there.Anyway, I hope what evan posted is correct. Perhaps the great crown vic fling is coming to an end. Time to grow up and get a camry or something.
4/16/2008 7:39:59 PM
4/16/2008 7:41:51 PM
How many people have a compass, extra antenna, and strobe on a crown vic? Sounds like some fog hattry to me.
4/16/2008 7:46:23 PM
i drive a crown vic that looks like a police caroh wait, thats cause it is
4/16/2008 7:58:31 PM
I thought this was about gays
4/16/2008 8:00:44 PM
i had (RIP) a friend who had a few charges of assault on a LEO, and supposedly he had to assume the felony arrest position every time he was pulled, even minor traffic stops.is this a possible flag, republican? some warning that comes up saying they're prone to hit cops?
4/16/2008 8:01:02 PM
in light of this thread message_topic.aspx?topic=520298why are you imperonsating a law enforcement vehicle?
4/16/2008 8:55:12 PM
TIME OUT! Was that you that I saw yesterday on Western and then turn off Gorman into Gorman St. apartments or in that vicinity???!?! The Crown Vic was an ol' blue and white car with antennas and all. Just no lights and u could tell the emblem had been scraped off the sides. WTF would ANYONE wanna drive that shit around!!?!?!?!!?
4/16/2008 8:55:34 PM
While some of the circumstances sound a bit spurious, I don't blame them at all for pulling you over. However, once you proved you did not in fact have illegal lighting/badges, they should have let you go, end of story. Oh, and there were 6 units total there? DAMN must have been a slow night. You're damn lucky you didn't still have the strobes. If you drive a CV with extra antennas, you're an obvious target to get pulled over, learn to deal with it and don't be stupid. Or get another car. (I've owned a Crown Vic, extensively driven another, and currently own a car that looks almost identical to one, and never gotten pulled over for suspicion of this. You're bringing it on yourself. Consider this karma getting you back for the strobes, considering that in retrospect the theft was good luck.)
4/16/2008 9:01:45 PM
I have driven this since '95 and never been pulled over. My suggestion is to remove the CB antenna. Good for you on not letting them search your vehicle over some BS!

4/16/2008 11:04:55 PM
4/16/2008 11:07:43 PM
if you work in construction or such, and can prove it, then you could put in strobes, otherwise, i think that would cross the line
4/16/2008 11:14:52 PM
4/16/2008 11:16:38 PM
yeah, but on the CV, i would say white would be enough to piss a cop off
4/16/2008 11:30:29 PM
^haha, and you'd be rightdon't do things that piss off cops, you're just asking for troublei know all the unreasonable search, probable cause, etc. shit... but don't go making trouble when there wasn't going to be any. just let the cop do whatever, make sure you get his badge number (don't make it obvious), and report it later. get legislation passed. whatever.i guarantee that arguing/fighting/whatever with a cop will get you absolutely nowhere and will put you in a much worse situation. great job - you may have defended your constitutional rights, but you ended up in jail for doing so.you can't win. so don't even try.
4/16/2008 11:34:09 PM
Hey guys, I own a crown vic which looks like a cop car. In fact I have referenced how much it looks like a cop car in several threads on tww. Now I came here to bitch about being pulled over for driving what looks like a cop car and I don't understand why law enforcement might hassle me or think I am up to something driving this vehicle. Thanks

Why do cops care so much about people in crown vics? I can understand not wanting people driving around pretending to be cops, but unless they've been getting reports of someone doing that, it seems crazy to get so bent out of shape about how the car looks.
4/17/2008 2:10:21 AM
your plate can be marked for certain things. i know one of mine was 3 years ago when my license was revoked. i got pulled on the beltline, and when i asked why he said because it showed when he ran the tag. keep in mind this is after i had registered the car at the dmv with an id card.
4/17/2008 3:33:13 AM
i know they get arrest history, evan. but i've seen that system and it can take a while to navigate when you have someone with multiple arrests and citations, etc.
4/17/2008 8:08:50 AM
Okay, douchebag, you say one more mean thing about my wife police-impersonating crown vic and I'll come after you in person. I want that clearly understood.
