Words warning. Read at your own risk.So I work at an office building shared with 3-4 other businesses. We have several parking spots right outside the building designated as visitor parking. We also have 5-10 visitors a day come by, many times carrying heavy computer equipment in with them. They need to park as close as possible. Many of them have started complaining because there are never any visitor spots open. Over the past several months, we've started to notice that the same 2-3 cars are always parking in the visitor spots every single day. At first we decided to leave notes on the cars politely asking them to not use the visitor spots every day. That worked on one of the cars, but not on the other ones. Lately for the last few weeks I've been turning the mirrors in on the cars as I walk by them in the morning. I was hoping that that would annoy them enough to make it stop but it doesn't appear to be having an effect. I've tried finding out who owns the cars, as I'm not afraid to confront them in person, but as of yet I have not been able to figure out who drives them. One of them gets in before I do, and stays later almost every day. And yes, they do move the cars at night so I know it's not just parked there long term. I'd love to let the air out of the tires every day or perhaps get one of those annoying stickers that won't come off the windshield, but I'm not trying to do anything to get arrested. Anyone have any ideas that might shame/convince these people to stop parking there every day?

drain all 4 tires using a key everytime they park there - leave a bike pump and an airguage for them to use to refill...
4/16/2008 10:16:49 AM
Is that legal?
4/16/2008 10:17:10 AM
put one of those movable concrete barriers behind it[Edited on April 16, 2008 at 10:17 AM. Reason : put a new bumper sticker on it everyday]

Does this office building not have a security guard type person who should be enforcing parking?
4/16/2008 10:18:38 AM
nope. no security. my boss emailed the building management, and they sent out an email to all the bosses that work here, but that didn't seem to do anything.
4/16/2008 10:19:39 AM
go with the bumper stickers. i used to have a stockpile from the dentist but my parents wouldn't let me put them on the cars so i stuck them on my bike!
4/16/2008 10:26:14 AM
I would do the bumper sticker thing but 1) is that legal?2) I wonder if they would figure out that the bumper stickers are in response to them parking in the visitor spots.
4/16/2008 10:28:19 AM
1) i doubt they walk fully around their car and inspect it every time they drive home so they won't see the bumper stickers till someone mentions them.2) how are they going to prove you put the stickers on their car unless there are security cameras3)....4) profit![Edited on April 16, 2008 at 10:31 AM. super glue their wiper blades to the windshield.dump a little bit of used oil under their car each day so that they think they have developed a leak.use a syringe to shoot oil in their tailpipe every day so that the car blows a smokescreen when the exhaust gets hot.leave a Penthouse magazine open on the roof of the car and put some semen-like substance on the door handle
4/16/2008 10:53:30 AM
anything you do to their car is not legal. its vandalismunless you put something on their windshield, like a note. and even then some people get really mad.

You should push for a new rule that any car that is there for more than 30 minutes will be towed at the owner's expense. In order for a customer to use the spaces for more than 30 minutes require them to have a temporary parking pass that lists the business name and phone number (placed in the windshield) so that you can contact them in the event that the perpetrator just start xeroxing his own passes.I hate motherfuckers that do shit like this or fat people that get handicapped plates so they don't have to walk too far on their fat fucking legs. They should develop fat parking and put all the spots at least a quarter mile away, they need to walk more than anyone.[Edited on April 16, 2008 at 10:59 AM. Reason : 30]
4/16/2008 10:58:55 AM
tow?since they're designated spots, wouldn't that work? if it doesn't already say "towing enforced", add it to the post.
4/16/2008 11:00:08 AM
This sounds like its not your problem it is your property managers.Have them designate the front spaces as "1 hour parking - towing enforced", then have cars towed that are there longer than an hour. There is no sense in you doing something potentially illegal when your building owner could fix this by letting his balls drop and doing something about it.<!--[Edited on April 16, 2008 at 11:06 AM. it's office, not apartment, but yeah. And we've complained, but they don't really want to get involved (which they would have to in order to do something like towing or adding information to the signs). That's why I'm asking for advice here. Obviously I'm down to my last resort here. ]
4/16/2008 11:06:00 AM
Yeah I mean to stay property manager not apt.I mean they are the ones that need to settle this. Your company is paying rent for an office with visitor parking near the front door and not getting use of it. I have always found pictures help when dealing with property managers too. Take one at 9:00am and another at 5:00pm showing the same cars still there. If you can e-mail in proof of what you are bitching about it helps them do their job as well as makes them take you more seriously.
4/16/2008 11:09:04 AM
1. run through the building and ask who drives a ______ car bc it's on fire/broken into/got a flat/alarm is going off/etc in the lot and they should check on it. 2. follow person out to the lot.....3. profit ?
4/16/2008 11:10:40 AM
the only reasonable thing to do is to do a stakeout and wait the few minutes it takes for them to show up. Walk out there and say "Hey, I know you see these spots empty for most of the day, but we regularly have visitors that have to carry heavy equipment and lately there hasn't been a visitor spot open for them. Would you mind parking in non-visitor spots?"Then if they still park there, those fatasses deserve whatever shit you do to them.
4/16/2008 11:10:58 AM
^^^ That's good advice. And maybe start talking about how you shouldn't have to pay as much rent or would like to break your lease agreement since you are losing customers due to a lack of parking. Use the phrase "frustration of purpose" in reference to the reason you rented the office space which was to have a place for customers to have easy access to you.[Edited on April 16, 2008 at 11:12 AM. ^^i would take the pic more than twice a day. heck, take it every hour if you can. with a cell phone or something as you walk by.and mass email to everyone in your department.
4/16/2008 11:12:17 AM
It's surely not someone that works for my company. And we don't have the email addresses of anyone else in the building.
4/16/2008 11:14:11 AM
1. Just go out one day, get your jack and stuff from your trunk.2. Remove tires3. ...4. Profit

last interview i went to, i had to park a good 3-4 minute walk away because the visitor spots were full (and it was around 3 oclock on a friday, mind you, so i doubt there were that many visitors, but instead bloated lunch returnee's)- i didn't mind though, because it gave me a chance to unwind before going in, and enjoy the sun and breeze on the way back[Edited on April 16, 2008 at 11:19 AM.
