Please do not use more than three carets to indicate that you are referring to a post above yours.

If at all possible, quote said post you are referencing.

Or if more than three carets are necessary, us the "^x#" format so that it is easier for other users to locate the referenced post.

Thank you!

hahah, its more like "how many times has it been done in the past 5 years" -- but like you said, you're not hardcore (RAHHHHHHHH)

i also think it's annoying when people use more than 2. also, keep in mind that the point is to simplify, not to create a riddle. since i keep waking up, and it's almost 5am... i'm likely just gonna stay up instead of sleep for another 45 minutes , i'm gonna post the "rules". the (previously) unwritten caret rules are as follows:

- if you're using 3 or more carets (^^^), you're doing it wrong
- if you have to use a caret with a number (^4), you're doing it way wrong
- lots of times, people misuse carets. a caret isn't supposed to tell the reader to skip the previous post, it's used to identfy the post before yours (^), and two posts back (^^)
- anything else should just be [quoted] and then responded to. if its way far back, you can say something like "On page 2, jackleg said:", and then quote it, then reply.

i think you'll notice that most of us ignore shit like this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ cause its just ridiculous (and we know that someone who iis bad at carats cant possibly have a good point to make. ha ha)

thanks, and happy careting!!1

wrong

for more than three carets you should use a quote box. nobody wants to count ^6 posts up

^^
Sometimes the quote could be really complex ... like if someone decides to use T-dub as a blog.

I'm probably not going to quote the text unless there is a specific statement within the "blog" that I am referencing.

So in such a case, I'd use "^x#"
