Me and bcsawyer have scored a big ass garwood winch( I think 20k) that is currently pto driven with a chain and gears. I would like to put it on the back of a '70 chevy c40 cab and chassis and power it with a hydraulic motor for power up and down. the hydraulics would also serve some remote connections, we currently have only one tractor with remotes and it would be bad ass to make the log splitter split faster than Grandpa with an axe ( no shit, hes fast). Basically a wetline kit. the truck has a provision for a pto on the transmission to drive the pump , but I am seeking some opinions as to what type of pump, what volume and what pressure would be best. I have been pawing through the surplus center catalog and the difference in the 1500 psi parts and the 3000 psi parts is not that great price wise. Horsepower driving the pump is not an issue, the truck has a 350. I would like to be able to run the hydraulic accessories with the truck at a healthy idle for most work. We could also run this off a small gasoline engine if the wetline kit gets complicated. What are the wrecker guys using? Do I need an oil cooler? what kind of steel tubing is used for rigid, fixed hydraulic lines?

why not just use it like it is as a pto? i'm assuming you've probably got an sm465 in that truck. shouldn't be hard to find a unit to bolt on. get your shafts made up, and you're good to go. you can split a hydro pump off of it too, but i wouldn't bother trying to rig up a seperate motor for the winch.
