okso yesterday at work ( i intern for a small accounting firm in Raleigh ) my boss told me he would get me an interview with Ernst and Young when I graduate (december 09). He also assumes to keep me as an intern until then as well. I kinda wanted to study abroad spring (09) but its looking like i'm here to stay because i would really like to work for E and Y. for those who don't know E and Y is pretty much THE company to work for if you are in accounting. What the hell should i do? the cons of me studying abroad would include delaying when i graduate, and a possible connection with this guy.

i'm pretty sure everyone is going to say stay. but i'm not very practical. so i say if you have the chance to study abroad, study abroad. but i know that isn't the right answer.

In most cases I would say study abroad. In your particular case it sounds like it would cost you a shot at your preferred employer, so I say stay home.

fuck the manbackpack across Europe. But seriously, I was confronted with a similar decision once too. I think it depends on the case, because unless you are really going to get something out of it (I mean like know the language, and go there for like a crazy life changing experience) then it may be better to just go the straight track. But you're talking about a full study abroad, no? That is an amazing experience - and no company deserves the right to make you give that up. Seriously, fuck the man. After you finish you will be a stronger candidate than if you had never gone. If they want you, they can take you after you get back. If they're not going to do that, seriously, fuck them.

go abroad and you'll never want to be an accountant again...it will be the best decision of your life

Talk to your boss and try to level with him, THEN go study abroad. I lived abroad (Europe) for two years and it was the most enriching thing I've ever done. There's no substitute for seeing how people in other parts of the world live and think.

go abroad man. It will be much better for you in the end. You can come back and continue to work for E&Y if you want. They won't be offended. You are young and need to experience the world for what it is (not the USA)
