To begin with, I checked the obvious sources as well as google. So the title to my car had my name and my dad's in NC.I moved to MD, had the title moved (and paid the fee to move it).I just recently paid off the loan, so I've got this certificate of title from HSBC that I'm supposed to take to the Maryland DMV. This certificate does reflect my new MD address, but lists both my name as well as my dad's.I had requested with the payoff that the new address be listed and my dad's name be removed - they obviously screwed one of those up. I called, and they said that when I go to the DMV, I simply tell them to make the title out to only me, and it won't cost anything. ie - "the certificate is moot, deal with it at the DMV when you go get the title"Is this correct? When I go to the Maryland DMV to get the title I will not have to pay any sort of fee to remove my dad's name?WORDS-Paid off loan, got certificate of title from HSBC-Need to go to Maryland DMV with certificate to obtain title-When getting title, must remove dad's name, leaving only myself as owner-Should not cost anything, right?

i have no clue about maryland dmv and i doubt anyone else does except maybe Igor or coronakid. i think your best bet is going to be google up their website and read. it's probably on there somewhere.i know for nc, there are no fees when a parent transfers a title as a "gift". the process would be you and your dad both have to sign the title and have your signatures notarized. you fill out and sign the section for the new private owner. dmv takes it and does a title application and you get your new title in a couple of weeks (or instantly at the main downtown office for an extra $75).
