What car would you drive?
4/7/2008 9:15:20 AM
honda fit
4/7/2008 9:31:11 AM
something less than 3000 pounds
4/7/2008 9:32:09 AM
probably a 1997 civic hatchback red in color
4/7/2008 9:54:54 AM
depends on how much money i have to work withprob an Eliseor MR2-Spyderor a Miata
4/7/2008 9:58:13 AM
<=25kish
4/7/2008 10:00:32 AM

^^looking to see what the options were for getting decent gas mileage and still getting something reasonably fun to drive. not trying to get max miles per gallon cause that would be really boring, not looking for max performance/fun cause that will make me poor since $/gallon is probably going to keep rising.]
4/7/2008 10:10:20 AM
uggh, and looking through those options it doesn't seem like theres much in the 25+ mpg category (city) that i could stand driving...guess I'll have to look at 20mpg+
4/7/2008 10:13:20 AM
if you dont mind the whole "gay miata" like duke posted. that would be a good choice.
4/7/2008 10:19:35 AM
so you wanted a low slung RWD sportscar that could do 25mph city huh? I still say Honda Fit - practical, versatile, sportiest in its class (handling, feel, etc)if you're trying to invest as little as possible... '92 civic. more useful than a crx
4/7/2008 10:37:44 AM
25? that's all? look into a TDI
4/7/2008 10:39:39 AM
integra gets 25+ mpg city driving.
4/7/2008 10:51:42 AM
^^^^ cant do a miata.^^^ not trying to cheap out, want a decent carand i'd be moving from an suv, so i'd like to have at least a trunk...guess I could do a hatchback if i had to. ^^ the TDI looks cool, but isn't disel like $4/gallon. so while it gets great gas mileage, the gas is 20-25% expensive?whats the rap on the civic hybrids?]
4/7/2008 10:52:34 AM
^might as well buy a regular civic from 1992+they all get about the same gas. hybrids just cost more.
4/7/2008 11:01:52 AM
4/7/2008 11:08:28 AM
^^hybrid gets 40+ in the city, i dont think the [recent] civics get that much. (i don't want some old car)]
4/7/2008 11:09:15 AM
yah, the older civics, '97 like mine gets 30-39 city-highway, and 92 like quinn who gets upper 30s in city and 40s on highway.both cost less than $3000.but yah, they older cars. not sure what is out there now for cheap.
4/7/2008 11:16:55 AM
^ I keep thinking about replacing my '97 Civic with something with more than 107bhp (factory flywheel) for the trip through the mountains I take every weekend (Chapel Hill to Johnson City, TN, straight through Boone, NC). Then I look at the mileage new cars get, on top of the expense of purchasing a newer vehicle, and cringe. When you can thrash a car through the mountains, averaging 4000rpms, and still get 35ish MPG overall, it's hard to think about getting rid of it, lol
4/7/2008 11:35:55 AM
thats the way!
4/7/2008 12:28:24 PM
2-door civic 5spds are pretty fun to drive, not much hp but handles well and is pretty peppy.
4/7/2008 12:30:04 PM
new: Fitused: 5th gen hatchback - hha talk to nerdchick about her vx
4/7/2008 12:51:13 PM
4/7/2008 12:56:14 PM
the 92-95s were good. the 96-00s were also good.its either old or new (if you arent comparing to the millennium body styles)if you get an unmolested one, its not going to break down on you. my '97 has 230,000 miles and was owned by a ricer mexican before me. and has been driven to my specs.
4/7/2008 12:57:11 PM
I have to say... my 2001 civic ex sedan 5sp is my 2nd favorite car I've owned... my favorite was my A4, but it was a vastly different class... My Civic gets >30mpg no matter what... and with mostly highway driving it gets >36 gauranteed... ALL highway it'll do >40MPG...another vote for civics
4/7/2008 12:59:45 PM
my GF just sold her 2000 civic, just hit like 104,000 miles, for $5500and im sure it'll last another few years, but with the people who bought it, im not so sure
4/7/2008 1:10:49 PM
generally speaking, which gets better gas mileage, an automatic or a manual (not high revving it)
4/7/2008 1:11:11 PM
92 civic cx36mpg city using ac39 city when its between 50-70 (no ac and not freezing)47mpg last tank mixed city highway16 year old 02 sensor!
4/7/2008 1:11:28 PM
^^manual
4/7/2008 1:20:20 PM
^not if you keep engaging VTEC.
4/7/2008 1:29:35 PM
07 VW Rabbit.Gets like 29 mpg from what people say, and EPA rating is 25-29
4/7/2008 2:05:25 PM
smart car?or a toyota yaris hatch 5spd
4/7/2008 2:51:22 PM
The MINI gets good mileage. (Some people do consider it a girl car...I don't though, especially if you get the Cooper S...)VW GTI is rated 21 city/29 hwy...not 25 but not bad...
4/7/2008 2:56:52 PM
2500 HD duramax
4/7/2008 3:56:10 PM
I have a gti and get 23 mpg in the cityand thats with 385hp
4/7/2008 4:23:16 PM
C5
4/7/2008 4:24:12 PM
corvette
4/7/2008 4:41:55 PM
I don't think C5 vettes can get 25mpg city, even with the 1-4 skip shift. At best I could get was like 15mpg all city. But at least you can get 29-31 mpg at highway speed.
4/7/2008 6:43:21 PM
it's worth it
4/7/2008 6:44:08 PM
^ Agreed, 100%.
4/7/2008 6:49:19 PM
i get 24.8 mpg in city in my '97 328i, and i do not drive conservatively(28mpg-35mpg on the interstate depending on speed and traffic)[Edited on April 7, 2008 at 7:45 PM. Reason : .]
4/7/2008 7:43:41 PM
yeah i was thinking about a 325/328/330, gotta look into their mileage
4/7/2008 8:13:12 PM
i was wondering what a karman ghia would get
4/7/2008 8:15:08 PM
I'm about to buy a suzuki samurai for this application (plus fun on weekends)

I can't find any BMW from the last 4 years or so which comes anywhere close to 25mpg
4/7/2008 8:52:58 PM
i'll take a pic when i can. my current mileage is about the same as the average for the entire time i have had the car. i drive on duraleigh, glenwood, and the beltline everyday commuting to work.i dont check the accuracy of the OBC with every tank, but when i have checked it it has been accurate.and look around online, lots of people are getting numbers like that in e36's.http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=797957&highlight=gas+mileage[Edited on April 7, 2008 at 8:56 PM.
