Noob question here....but how do I know if my blackberry has GPS? I have the Verizon World Edition 8830 if that helps any....Also....does this mean I'll be able to use my blackberry over seas? I'm assuming I can't use the actual phone, but can I still get everything else?

did you just find a blackberry on the street and activate it?

what the fuck? shouldn't you be asking these questions before you buy

with verizon, you have to unlock it first before you can use it oversea. The 8830 has GPS, I know because I had one. There should be a GPS program on your phone.

nah, I just was so busy asking other shit and wanting to get out of the store that I forgot some questions....whether or not I had GPS or was able to use it overseas wasn't a sticking point so I just forgot to ask....but now I'm curious about it. Do you have to pay to unlock it to work overseas? And where is this GPS program you speak of?

I'm confused seedless....I have a blackberry so then I don't have a windows mobile phone right? Or was that question directed at someone else? I've got the 8830 and I don't know how to do shit.....I was recently informed on how to move the icons so yeah, I'm a total noob

I don't know how much it cost to unlock the phone. I had the sprint version of the phone, and the sprint version already came unlocked.

it's been a while since i used a blackberry, but it should be under programs or something like that. If not, just download google maps.

alltel will have them this summer.
they are so behind on everyone else with phones i am seriously thinking about leaving them for this. on top of this, i think this phone will come with wm6.0, not wm6.1

I had the 8830 at first, but then they made me pay $30 extra per month to use services through RIM, so I said screw it and exchange it for the Q9c and love it. It does everything the 8830 does except I'm paying $30 less/month. The only complaint is that it doesn't have a SIM card slot so I have to get another phone when I'm going out of country this summer. Sprint $30 SERO plan ftw.

well I opened up the maps and there's no 'where am I now' option....I can find addresses, but that's it....if I actually didn't know where I was and needed directions, I'd be SOL.....

dled gmaps and indeed it has a find my location thing....I'd think it would be closer than 5000 meters, but hey....better than nothing.

OK...what other cool shit can I do with this thing???

whoa, yeah it def. is closer than 5000 meters.

that's a long ways.

HOWEVER, if you're using gmaps, i'd only suggest it if you have the unlimited data plan

scrollin around and shit on gmaps blows up your data usage

But yeah, it's telling me I live in the middle of Westwood....which I don't, and I'm not 3 miles from it either

yah.....zoomed....now it's moved me east a bit to the middle of beverly hills so yeah, I'm about 3 miles from there, but still not there really so I'd think I could get it much closer. I mean there's a lot of shit between me and there

well gmaps isnt a true gps, it's using your cell towers around hwere you're at.

if you have a true gps it'd be much, much more accurate

i want someone to program a bb app that is voice recognition from a headset -> text message.

that'd be awesome.

well I have friends who have blackberries so I use the messenger thing, so I just use one of the emails I have going to my bb rather than the bb email addy. If only I could run 'rules' on incoming messages though....my main email acct gets too much spam

And, um.....how does one go about uninstalling a program? I dled this stupid fucking game LINGO and I want it off...but if I highlight the program, and click the menu button, there's not 'delete' option?

something like that is unfeasible right on a phone at the moment. however i am pretty sure that it can be a server based thing where you speak and the server translates that to a text and then send it.

the bb facebook app will allow you to snap a picture, and immediately upload and comment it to your facebook accnt.

which is kinda cool

considering how crappy my bluetooth is at understanding who I'm trying to call...I can only assume I'd toss my phone out a window if I tried doing voice/text recognition

^no cam on my phone though....
