4/5/2008 12:37:15 PM
Is there a certain dollar value that makes larceny a Felony? If those are regular iPODs 10*$300=$3,000 Plus they probably have his computer now and can see how many others he stole by goign through his email
4/5/2008 12:46:17 PM
yea, if they hadn't hit up the same stores too many times they would have pulled it off a lot longer.the warrant says the shrink wrap machine was used to "sell the ipods like new" which makes no sense. the shrink wrap machine was to rewrap the boxes to return the store "unopened"
4/5/2008 12:52:48 PM
that may be so, but you also advertise the iPods on ebay and such as factory wrapped/brand new and get much higher prices for them
4/5/2008 1:09:26 PM
Doesn't Best Buy/ Circuit City/ Target, keep track of what Mechandice you return?? So after the FIRST one came up with pennies.. couldn't they trace it back to him?? Are the bar codes for expensive stuff all the same? (per product) Or are they individualized?
4/5/2008 1:11:39 PM
umm. a bar code is for an individual product. dumbass
4/5/2008 1:13:25 PM
bitch is gettin choked[Edited on April 5, 2008 at 1:18 PM. Reason : ]

When I worked at Best Buy the registers scanned the serial number bar codes on ps2's but that was pretty much the only product we did that for.I always wonder why they did not do that for other items because a lot of high end electronics have the serial number on the box with a corresponding bar code. The oldest trick in the book is when something breaks and they still sell it go buy the same thing and return the old one in the box as not working.
4/5/2008 1:17:32 PM
its easy to track this sort of stuff.the UPC/ Item number only helps the store keep track of the independant item. However, shrink reports are published weekly that show discrepancies in ON HAND numbers versus STOCK numbers, as well as Sales and Return transactions. After these, you research the sales transactions (computerized versions of register receipts, searchable by item number, payment type, or by individual register) and pull each and every log. If paid for by credit card, it's VERY easy to catch, because the same numbers come up all the time. If not, then you pull the receipt of the penny ipod, watch it over CCTV, and get the guy's description, and if possible, license plate from his vehicle. From there you can gather evidence and nail the guy. It's pretty easy once you know how the record keeping systems work. I did it for about 3 years before coming to law school. good times.

4/5/2008 1:43:32 PM
"barcode" doesn't tell you much in particularit could be a serial numberor product numberor IMEIor activation code
4/5/2008 1:45:18 PM
is this guy really dumb enough to think that every single item in the store has a unique bar-code? There are easily a million items in a store.
4/5/2008 1:46:37 PM
barcode, no... but on high dollar items, depending on vendor regulations, are sometimes sold with unique product ID's...
4/5/2008 1:48:05 PM
some products just have a product ID = you can't tell the difference between each oneipods have serial numbers on them though that are scanned at checkout, so they do in fact know about each individual ipod they have in stock. =[Edited on April 5, 2008 at 1:49 PM. Reason : serial #'s in addition to product ID numbers that is, obviously]
4/5/2008 1:48:37 PM
