So I'm at a party tonight and the cops show up. The people that live there have to show them their id's and talk to them... Neither one of them are 21 and eventually the cops leave. I'm 21 so it wasn't a big deal but what are the rules on this, cause it was pretty obvious and out in the open that there was beer pong going on. Does anyone know what the rules are on going into an apartment or not or what has to happen...?

I think what happened was they did the right thing vs being douches and writing you an NPO ticket. I would not complain too much. They could have easily written one of those bullshit tickets and you would have had to go to court and shit to get it dismissed.

or what happened with us, tell everyone who is underage to stay/drink inside, those who are over age are welcome outside. that was his way of keeping everyone cool. it worked.

Took courses with one for several years - we were the same year and degree, and ended up in five or six classes together. He was extremely intelligent, more mature than the profs even, and his discipline was so admirable that he became a role model for me.

Well I don't think the marines did anything much to help my cousin, he's still pretty much doing nothing...and the last time I hung out with him he ended up giving me a black eye cause he passed out at a concert and I had to wake him up to get the car keys from him and to get him to walk back to the car (he's probably around 275lbs-he put on a lot of weight after he got out) and he decided that he just wanting to try to knock me out and told me to never wake him up again cause he's trained to kill people that wake him up. I said fuck that and left his ass there, and I haven't answered the phone when he calls since then.

If you're having an apartment party here's what will go down.

Cops will probably only show up if noise is being made. They'll knock on your door. And here's what most people don't realize. You don't have to open it. If they see what appear to be underage (especially if they look under 18) people inside they then have the authority to enter your apartment.

After they knock on your door, simply quiet the noise, and ask who it is through the door. They'll say it's the police. You say, "Can I help you?". They'll say something like, "Can you open the door please?"

Now, notice that it's a request. You can say no. The rest of the conversation should go something like this.
you: "No sir, I can't. Can I help you though?"
PO: "We've been receiving noise complaints about this apartment"
you: "I'm very sorry officer, we'll be sure to keep it down. Thank you."

Then you're done, and you walk away. People on average have a tendency to do whatever an authority figure tells them to or asks them to. Just keep in mind, that in many cases you don't have to. Like opening the door. Just be polite and courteous as you can, while still maintaining your rights.

ALSO IMPORTANT. Police have what's called a reverse peephole lens that lets them look through the peephole in your door and see inside your apartment. They are allowed to do this. It's kind of like looking through your window. So put some tape over that mother!

You may now throw a successful apartment/hotel party.

I dunno, when I was looking for roommates these two girls who are going to be freshmen next year are skipping the dorm and going straight to an apartment. They told me since it's their first time living out of the house they'd want to throw a party with kegs and beer pong, and said that since I'll be 21 I can buy all the alcohol for them. I didn't reply back.

I was not feeling the whole being the only 21 year old at a party full of a bunch of 18 year olds with the cops guaranteed to show up. Fuck that.
