My headlight strobes aren't very noticeable in the daytime, and are so-so at night. I set them near the front of the headlight, close to the lens; would moving it closer to the reflector make it look brighter? Please no comments on their legality, I only use them on private property. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Not on their legality... how about not being an attention whore though.

higher power power supply
3/27/2008 8:18:13 AM
Currently they're powered by a cigarette lighter plug (the lazy solution). How would I deliver more power, solder the wires directly to the battery terminals? Or wire it to a high-amp fuse in the fuse box? I would think higher amperage would yield higher wattage, since the voltage stays the same (power=current x voltage).

buy a better kit for starters. you're not going to get shit for power if the original design is powered by a 12v dc outlet
3/27/2008 9:11:13 AM
^ yep, you can polish a turd all you want, but in the end, you still have a shiny turd
3/27/2008 9:17:10 AM
BAM
3/27/2008 9:45:32 AM
hahaha wow... a cigarette lighter kit... wow.. higher amp fuse doesn't push more amperage through the system. you need more voltage... it is possible that there is a resistor somewhere in the cigarette lighter plug thats holding back their voltage. if you could hot wire around that they would be brighter but then you have the fire hazard of actually pushing decent amperage through a thin ass lighter plug cable
3/27/2008 10:44:10 AM
holy shit.. apparently you have a cheap ass supply and kit. If you are serious buy a better kit with a higher voltage power supply and real strobes. but be prepared to pay for them...
3/27/2008 11:42:46 AM
i stopped reading at cigarette lighter plug

It's the streetglow strobe kit from advance auto parts. I guess I'm stuck with nighttime use only.
3/27/2008 12:51:38 PM
It better have come with some stickers or else you got a bad deal on them...
3/27/2008 12:55:16 PM
^^ that explains everything... i'm out of this thread
3/27/2008 1:06:15 PM
shit's gotta look hot when he hits the ice cream shop
3/27/2008 1:19:19 PM
these guys said a higher amp fuse will definitely make them brighter
3/27/2008 1:50:29 PM
^And they were wrong.A higher amp fuse will do nothing.
3/27/2008 3:32:39 PM
^ wrong, it will melt wiring
3/27/2008 3:50:23 PM
^Wrong.A fuse will do nothing at all. A fuse does nothing but blow if the current demand is too high, it is not a limiting device in this type of application. There is nothing being changed to require more current, so it will do nothing. If you just change the fuse:The current demand has not changedThe supplied current has not changedNothing will change.Going directly to the battery will do nothing:The bulbs are not changing their load on the system, just drawing from a different place. You would need to:A. A higher voltage power supplyB. A higher rated fuseC. A new system, because you will burn up the current one.[Edited on March 27, 2008 at 4:50 PM. Reason : .]

^ding!
3/27/2008 5:02:05 PM
dudewait, what?dude
3/27/2008 5:10:15 PM
Oh well, it's all moot now because my car was burglarized last night, the strobe controle module was stolen along with about $1700 worth of electronics.
3/28/2008 9:25:19 AM
well what if the fuse is rated above what the wiring can take and therefore shorts the wires before the fuse will blow...but this is me thinking from my ass cause no one would do this... except for mythbusters.
3/28/2008 9:27:57 AM
that suckshope you got some insurance
3/28/2008 9:28:27 AM
too much advertisement on the twwebs

you need to wire them into the constant source from your ignition. Also, don't use a fuse and they will be brighter.

Okay, douchebag, you say one more mean thing about my wife shitty electrical knowledge and I'll come after you in person. I want that clearly understood.
4/17/2008 8:30:45 AM
I think he was being sarcastic i.e. telling the guy to drain his battery and risk burning his car down.
4/17/2008 9:12:25 AM
you need an inverter, and hook 120 v to it
4/17/2008 11:30:28 AM
4/17/2008 12:03:25 PM
WHaaaaaa?6volt battery? in a car?Fuses are bad for cars?Whaaaat?
4/17/2008 1:35:11 PM
4/17/2008 3:31:47 PM
^haha, possibly. But still some moron is going to read this and try something stupid, and then come on here bitching about how fucked up his car is, and then we are going to laugh at them.Just trying to make this a less frequent situation. Blame the teacher in me.
4/17/2008 4:09:52 PM
we would rather let darwin take his course and laugh at the end... isn't that what tww is all about ?
4/17/2008 4:35:20 PM
its definitely the teacher in you
4/17/2008 5:56:49 PM
4/17/2008 6:41:52 PM
whats sarcasm? And to the guy who wants to hunt people down for insulting his electrical knowledge - please dont hunt me down. THX.
