This is a thread about dead soldiers?Damn, I thought it was a somewhat humorous but not at all serious parody thread.
3/25/2008 12:14:48 AM
^^ No, actually, it's not "nickel-and-dime"--it's about seventy-five cents a gallon. And you're the one that brought up the price of gas here--I'm simply not letting you skew the numbers.Solemnity? Please. ^ Yeah, JoeSalisbury mourns the American dead by mockingly comparing their loss to that of King Leonidas's Greeks. GG.A serious comparison would reveal that--like the "300" Greeks--the Americans who died were part of the most powerful military force in the world, and they died fighting for something: Duty, honor, country. There is no shame in that. [Edited on March 25, 2008 at 12:25 AM. Reason : .]

gas in seattle, like many other major cities, is around $3.75. it's likely going to be $4.00 or more by summer for large portions of america. but it's a minor point, and it doesnt matter because you'll still be here telling us how cheap it is out in the "impressive economy" of Fuquay-Varina. this war has been morally, politically, strategically bankrupt from the start. the only ones profiting are war contractor buddies of Cheney and pals, along with the rabid right-wing fundamentalist Christian fascists who want to drive the world into an apocalyptic religious conflagration to fulfill their twisted ideology based on their dominionist interpretation of The Revelation of St. John.so i say, fuck it. lets just all go ahead and parade around in an absurd homoerotic militaristic fantasy a la King Leonidas and continue trumpet this notion that us noble Americans are somehow superior to the rest of the world, and we're going to save everyone from the evils of tyranny.[Edited on March 25, 2008 at 10:43 AM. so you dont feel that we have a duty as Americans to rid the world of its bastards? is it your opinion that we should instead let people suffer at the hands of the ruthless? Bosnia, Somali, etc...? Ive always been curious of this answer by those with your opinions on Iraq. I am certianly not arguing that Iraq has gone well or was done the right way but I think Saddam was a bastard and is better off swinging on the end of a rope and I do think we have a duty to fight for those that are less fortunate than us.the US is always in a 'damned if you do and damned if you dont' type situation. the international community is always bitching that we do too much or not enough.
3/25/2008 11:00:02 AM
The problem is that we, alone, play judge, jury, and executioner. When one entity is the sole decider of who is guilty of wrong-doing, there will always be those who disagree. You said Sadaam was a bastard. I agree. But there are many around the world who view Bush the same way. The only difference is that they don't have the same ability to do anything about it as we do. It's morally irresponsible to grant ourselves that much power.
