I thought trance and d&b WERE techno.

As in, techno is the main group, and then trance, trip-hop, drum and bass, etc are all sub-groups

I am sure God will come in here and pwn me if I am wrong but from my experience the broad genre is considered "Electronic Music". From that you get the sub-genres of techno, trance, house, d&b, etc. And if you are really nitpicky there are sub-genres in those as well. If you want to hear the difference then go to di.fm It's where I get the majority of my music from.

This is also incorrect. EDM isn't even really anything. That's as much of a flavor term as "electronica."

The main genres are House, Techno, Trance, Breakbeat, Jungle, Hardcore, Downtempo.

^^^try looking up e*vax, which makes up the "electronic" part of ratatat. great shit, im pissed he pretty much gave it up to play in ratatat, which i've found every one of their songs to be the same.

theres also carpet musics, which is a little more minimal. paradox not intended.

find e*vax on audio dregs, and i think carpet musics is on morr, but i cant remember for sure.

i think that's what that burial - untrue album is classified as, and i listen to that multiple times per week, usually when walking the dog through the city at night
