(GHOSTBUSTERS....ok thats out of the way)

to get my heater fixed.
blowing out cold air.

not that im gonna need heat today. but would love to go ahead a eradicate this problem.

i did a google search but i dont even know what to search for exactly....

help me out guys

and if the pilot is out then i have to get the thingy replaced

it is supposed to automatic so if it is out

i have to get a new one

i cant just light it

It all depends on how old the system is, if it has a pilot, hot surface or spark ignition. First thing I would do if I was to go over there is to take the door off the heater, turn the thermostat on and then manually press the door switch to start the heater. If the heater has a induce draft blower it will purge to make sure you have a negative pressure and no carbon monoxide in the combustion chamber, if the negative pressure switch is satisfied, and if you have a hot surface ignitor it will get 110V and light up. After it lights up the gas valve will open and light the heater. If your hot surface ignitor is cracked it wont ever light up. Now if you have a spark ignition instead of a hot surface it will begin to spark and open the gas valve after the negative pressure switch closes. If you turn the thermostat on heat and auto and up high enough to run and the fan comes on immediately, you need to check all the roll out switches, they should have a red reset button on top of them if one of them is tripped you need to call a A/C guy. There are so many things to check I can't write everything down but this should give you some idea how a newer heater works. Hope this helps.

also, don't rule out the circuit board. there should be a series of diagnostic lights on the board itself that indicates the circuit board's status. there should be a chart on the door to your heater system that shows you what the lights mean. if it is not there, you can google the make / model of your hvac system.
