yeah, ask jeepman how his ax15 rebuild went. swap something else in, don't fuck with that piece of shit unless you just happen to find a used one dirt cheap or something. nv3550 is a no brainer and nearly bolt in. nv4500 isn't terribly hard.

the nv4500 is a little more difficult in an xj since they don't really have the room
i don't really have to time to be hacking up my floor. etc.

^^ bitch please, it's in and shifting perfectly. turns out it was the driveshaft that's getting fixed this weekend then it's wheelin time babyyyy

and sumfoo1. i'm not sure man, ax-15 would be easy to swap back in, i haven't really looked into any sort of swaps for 6 cylinder motors but i can tell you that the nv3550 is pretty beefy. i really think either would be fine.

first things first though, what will you be using it for?

^yeah, a bad u joint can sound a lot like an output shaft bearing or pinion bearing that's burned up and squealing.

^^don't bother with anything else if it's just going to be a pavement pounder.

what tools did you need to rebuild your transmission?
I got another one already but i think i'm going to rebuild my current one and sell it or keep it as a spare or something.

And i really think i'm going to sell it, it was a great college kid/ highschool kid car but i think i'm done with that i want something a little more highway friendly so I'm thinking i may get either a diesel or a Subaru here in the next couple months.
