So I need to get a second set of non-track wheels for the lotusimo and rather than getting some retarded expensive wheels, I was looking at several dayton knockoffs.Basically I'm looking for something that will a) look cool as hellb) not cost me 3-4K for a set of basically beater, road trip wheelsc) won't make the car look like a ricer/mexican low rider. Here's a quick photochop with some 100 spoke all chrome wheels on it. Suggestions for ANY wheels I can get a set of for under a grand will be gladly welcome.

AHAHA if you put 100 spokes on a lotus you will be my hero.

(*#&$% imageshackAnd the wheels im looking at are 17" all around, not the 13" ghetto wheels. And yea, I'm well aware of the ghetto-ization of wire wheels.Frankly I LOVE some 144 spoke 20-22"s on an old El dorado or Caddy, I'll definitely be owning a rider one day. The only thing that really concerns me right now is the weight. A HEAVY set of wheels for the lotus is like 18-22lbs a wheel. All the wire wheels I've found in 17's are like 40-45lbs PER wheel. That's adding like 10-15% to the weight of the whole car, and it's unsprung which makes me worry about the extra stress on the suspension[Edited on March 20, 2008 at 8:39 PM. Reason : .]
3/20/2008 8:36:35 PM
yeah, i figured you were looking at something bigger. just using the original old school 13's as an example of what most people consider wire wheels belong on. like i said, i personally think they'd look sweet and be different... i'm about to order a set of 22" 150 spokes myself for one of my cars. just be prepared for a lot of haters saying it's ghetto, you've ruined the car, etc...yeah, they're heavy bastards for sure. shouldn't be a problem for light duty driving though on a vehicle that's already got upgraded pieces to deal with the stresses of hard driving and track use.[Edited on March 20, 2008 at 8:45 PM. 3/20/2008 8:43:00 PM
get some bmw basketweaves on the low low
3/20/2008 8:53:04 PM
i'm personally a fan of flat black 5-spokers.
3/20/2008 8:56:04 PM
I already have flat black 7 spokes, and love them, so I'm lookin for something different
3/20/2008 9:00:55 PM
color matched wheels with a polished lip?(that's another personal favorite)
3/20/2008 9:11:46 PM
3/20/2008 9:13:06 PM
I really want to drive one of those....but speaking form experience a 6 foot 275lb me getting in is funny to watch, even gathered a crowd at the auto show...
3/20/2008 9:24:05 PM
^I'm 6'5 and right now about 240. I barely bit lengthwise and widthwise. If you are under a 40" waist, you should be able to fit without too much issue, its the hips that kill ya.Of course if you get a different seat, you can fit easier.^^Yeah I hate that look, too asian sports car to me.
3/20/2008 9:41:04 PM
someone with a 40" waist can comfortably fit in an Elise?Shit, I have about 32-33" waist, and the Recaros in my Evo are a snug fit.[Edited on March 20, 2008 at 9:49 PM. Reason : ^it doesn't look asiany on a black car. i guess it kinda does with a red one. i still dig it.]
3/20/2008 9:48:34 PM
color matched wheels look terrible on almost every car. occasionally they're done quite well & pull together, but even then they just look "ok"
3/20/2008 10:05:29 PM
^^ you are also built like a brickhouse. I'm VERY snug fitting now, but about 20 pounds ago it was a pretty perfect match (34-36" waist). ^yep
3/20/2008 10:08:32 PM
Personally I think it ruins the look of the car, but to each his own.
3/20/2008 10:11:05 PM
3/20/2008 10:21:02 PM
What's with the hurricane symbol thing on the center of the wheels?I bet it'd look better if that was black.
3/20/2008 11:18:19 PM
lol, hurricane symbol... they're called knockoffs. usually an actually functioning piece of most wire wheels.
3/20/2008 11:57:51 PM
Red steelies with dog-dish hubcaps. The Rat Rod look, except gloss rather than primer. Defiintely not something you'd expect to see on a Lotus.
3/20/2008 11:58:21 PM
hahaha im get HAMMERED on lotustalk http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/showthread.php?p=962330I love how people somehow think British car design always = japanese wheel design. I hate Jap wheels, which is like 99% of the shit on sports cars today. It's all so fucking devoid of any character.
3/21/2008 12:08:38 AM
ahaha, that one queer is so upset about it you're on his ignore list.... please just say fuck these people, get some gold ones, and take pics. [Edited on March 21, 2008 at 12:28 AM. Reason : .]
3/21/2008 12:28:20 AM
nah, if i get them, they will be stainless. I hate chrome and I hattttteee gold on cars (except the matte gold wheels on Blue subaru's, goddamn that looks hot)
3/21/2008 1:30:46 AM
man, that car is a pretty strong example of form being dictated by function. it's purpose built from bumper to bumper to be an ultimate sports car, EVERYTHING else be damned.why would you intentionally put those very heavy wheels on it?
3/21/2008 1:43:54 AM
I did a little more searching, and there are a bunch of options under 25lbs. I wouldnt get any wheels over 25lbs because of the added stress they could put on the suspension and stuff
3/21/2008 4:09:04 AM
the 240 community always has mesh wheels for sale.. but they're always like 15x6.5
3/21/2008 5:53:15 AM
3/21/2008 8:47:45 AM
and put some hydrolics on there an call it a day.you want spokes, get these.team dynamic pro race 1[Edited on March 21, 2008 at 10:12 AM. Reason : ]
3/21/2008 10:12:04 AM
Noen, do you drive a lotus?
3/21/2008 10:22:26 AM
i don't think 100 spokes look right on something that is supposed to look fast/aggressiveplus, you have those nice large calipers... might as well show them off instead of hide them behind the wheels
3/21/2008 10:22:52 AM
The straight spoke look that you shopped onto your car doesn't look terrible. It's not my thing, but I wouldn't say I dislike it. The crossed spokes that you posted in that lotus thread are a bad idea IMO. That style got worn out by all the Cutlass Cieras rolling on hubcaps back in the 80's.40lbs per wheel is a definite idea killer though.

3/21/2008 12:46:39 PM
3/21/2008 3:36:45 PM
this thread makes me think I wouldn't fit in a lotus.
3/21/2008 3:55:32 PM
^^Yes, technically you do drive a Lotus. But what you drive is like when someone with an H3 tells people they drive a Hummer. This is the only real Lotus.
3/21/2008 4:16:01 PM
^ you should at least back up what you are saying with which POS you drive
3/21/2008 4:18:48 PM
^^ there aren't enough rolly eyes in the worldaside from the fact that an Exige sure as shit counts as a "real" Lotus, what about the fucking Seven?
3/21/2008 4:38:35 PM
Once I was in my fat ass 42 inch waist ft fine, it was just getting in and out that took a bit of time... yeah....My seats are alittle tight in my new ride, Speaking of things that need gold wheels
3/21/2008 8:21:05 PM
mark, seriously, a wrx? what happened to the vic?
3/21/2008 8:40:07 PM
I always thought that the seats in the WRX were designed for larger people. I drove one comfortably for years.
3/21/2008 8:45:30 PM
3/21/2008 10:42:51 PM
last car i rocked out wire wheels on was my 72 MG midget
3/21/2008 10:58:31 PM
I saw a Midget earlier this weekand an original RHD Mini Cooper today (blue, with Union Jack painted on roof. very clean)
3/21/2008 11:03:57 PM
polished lips are played out
3/22/2008 12:35:10 PM
3/22/2008 1:33:48 PM
