planning on taking this course in the fall, but keen is the only one who teaches the course on semester and i've heard he is an ass hole. i was wondering if anyone has taken or knows anything about the hyman online course.

keen is an ass but he is fair, I don't know why people complain about him so much. There are no surprises in his class....he lays it out for you the first day of class...some idiot will ask what the policy is so he gets pissed because its really simple and he shouldn't have to explain himself over and over...others get mad because he looks like a dick, but really he's just mad at stupid people.

I actually thought he was a pretty good lecturer. The material is hard, but whatever its not that bad.


edit: and I've heard he grades easier now fwiw...I took him spring of 05

keen >> hyman as long as you don't expect special treatment. he lays out everything in the beginning of the semester and expects it to stay that way. if you take the honors lab you get to know him better, and he really isn't bad at all.

My vote goes to Hyman. He's a good lecturer. I actually enjoyed that class. The lab is no doubt the best biology lab I've ever taken.

he's not so much an ass hole as a he is a smart ass... regardless he's a good professor

I really enjoyed his sense of humor and the way he presented the material

i appreciate all the advice, i went with keen mainly because i wouldn't do shit in the online course and i didnt wanna risk it. it seems like as long as you keep your mouth shut and dont ask dumb shit then you should be alright in his class

yeah...i mean its not like you shouldn't ask questions. He is willing to help you if you have an intelligent question, but you shouldn't be asking stuff like "can I make up a test" when you have been repeatedly told the answer.

He's a "smart ass" in lecture and sometimes doesn't know what he's talking about. But in lab he was a really nice, easygoing guy. It's a fair class and requires a moderate amount of studying.
