I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my roommate's TV. It's a small TV/VCR combo set that is obviously fairly old. Things worked fine with it until I moved it into my room (i needed to watch a VHS and had no VCR) and even then it worked fine for a couple days. Now it will start up, stay on for about 5 seconds normally, then turn itself off as if someone hit the remote. I took the batteries out of the remote to make sure it wasnt having an effect on the TV. Anyone know what could be wrong with it? It's not worth replacing, but I feel bad if my roommate no longer has a tv in his room.

ps - it was set next to my CRT monitor, then moved away, could the magnets have something to do with it?

nah it's so old im not sure he'd care.. i dont think it's anything i did.

i guess my main question is having the tv next to a large CRT monitor for a couple days, would that damage the tv at all?

lol i know that this might sound immature but i did this all the time at hotels when i went on school trips in high school, take the room remote, go by other rooms and turn on their tvs through the window and turn the volume all the way...lol

anyways thanks for the suggestions. The problem is something with the VCR.. I got the tv to stay on fine now, but it will spit out the VHS right after you put it in. I'm just gonna borrow a VCR from my parents

First we have to find out what the problem is. Here's what you do:


Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > System
Select the Advanced tab
Click Settings in the Startup and Recovery section
Under the System Failure section, clear the checkbox next to Automatically Restart
Click OK and OK to exit

Then post what message you get on the bluescreen. I'm guessing it has something to do with Nv4-dsp.dll.
