I just checked my account online and a server at California Pizza Kitchen gave himself an extra 10$ for tip. 20% apparently wasn't enough. Good thing I have the receipt. jerk.
3/18/2008 2:57:52 PM
fraud...or key stroke error??
3/18/2008 3:01:21 PM
WHATCHA GONNA DO ABOUT IT?
3/18/2008 3:03:54 PM
Or if it was recent that was just the estimated amount. It may not be final yet. Wait a day or two before you freak out.
3/18/2008 3:04:13 PM
I often get overcharged and they adjust it later... like a "retainer" sort fo deal.I never go to California Pizza Kitchen anyway because that place fucking sucks
3/18/2008 3:05:49 PM
don't sometimes they do a dry run on your account for like a dollar when you open a tab or something like that?
3/18/2008 3:06:55 PM
I called and they looked up the transaction and refunded me all the money. But it's still irritating and wrong.
3/18/2008 3:06:57 PM
free food what what
3/18/2008 3:08:06 PM
i can't count how many times i've seen this same thread on TWW
3/18/2008 3:08:10 PM
Did they verify that the final charge was for the wrong amount? Because it would suck for them if you complained over a pending transaction.
3/18/2008 3:09:15 PM
Thats because TWW is a collection of some of the cheapest people in the countryThe kind of people who hesitate to throw a penny into a fountain
3/18/2008 3:10:03 PM
this is one of the reasons i pay with cash at restaurants..#1 i limit my budget #2 tip will be on the table.. servers like that, they don't want the tip going into the "pot of tips" if they are good at what they do #3 and no shenanogins like this
3/18/2008 3:10:31 PM
i put mine in my change purse!
3/18/2008 3:10:45 PM
3/18/2008 3:11:50 PM
How long ago was it?? I assume since they refunded it that they really were in the wrong...but a lot of people don't know how credit/debit card purchases work at eating/drinking establishments.
3/18/2008 3:13:03 PM
^^correct. and good use of dingaling.[Edited on March 18, 2008 at 3:13 PM. Reason : up]
3/18/2008 3:13:12 PM
i always pay with my dc because i am such a slacker at having cash. sorry to the waiters of the world, but i promise to start paying in all every time i eat in the future.
3/18/2008 3:14:08 PM
douche bags!!!
3/18/2008 3:16:33 PM
did you call the business or the credit card company and/or bank?[Edited on March 18, 2008 at 3:18 PM. Reason : i've had this happen too, called citibank and they refunded it no questions asked]
3/18/2008 3:17:45 PM
however, i am inclined to leave a bigger tip if i go debit.
3/18/2008 3:17:49 PM
RED BOX CHARGED ME $2!!!1
3/18/2008 3:22:40 PM

3/18/2008 3:29:14 PM
I never really do the math, I just ballpark it

3/18/2008 3:37:46 PM
Not my fault you suck with e-sarcasm... and i do something similar at bars anyway...
3/18/2008 3:49:21 PM
Tip from a bartender:Always take the customer copy. Leaving the restaurant and customer copy on the bar is begging to get overcharged. You only have yourself to blame.
3/18/2008 3:56:28 PM
some places actually leave it at the transaction amount minus the tip while its pending. i know i've checked my statement online before and said "damn, did i forget to tip? was i that drunk?" only to find out that it was because it was pending.Hibernian is notorious for overcharging though.kristamcneil the cokehead that she is also was really bad about this at big easy.
3/18/2008 4:01:50 PM
3/18/2008 4:11:31 PM
from working in retail...if you're ever overcharged with a tip, just call the restaurant or, in the worst case, the credit card company. if you dispute the charge, they must have a copy of the receipt with the tip written in. of course, that has to match the amount you were chargedso technically, no, you do not have to take 1 copy for safety's sake so long as you fill in and sign both
3/18/2008 4:37:14 PM
damn this is infuriating
3/18/2008 4:44:24 PM
3/18/2008 4:44:27 PM
radhar hayyyyyyyy
3/18/2008 4:47:37 PM
i was black out drunk one night and left a really shitty tip by accident. i couldn't even remember paying so i checked my credit card to see what happened. the next time i went in there i gave the bartender a make up tip.
3/18/2008 4:48:17 PM
nah, its been argued beforethey must be able to produce an original signed receipt if the charge is protested. with that, the signature must match the persons and it cannot appear to be altered (such as having a different tip written in)

a) i love how when there is a transaction mishap its DEFINITELY because the server wanted a better tip. nothing else could have happened. no other errors. totally that greedy server.b) its $10 fucking dollars, unless that caused you to overdraft your account (in which case you shouldn't have been eating out to begin with) who cares. like someone else said, wait a day or two to see if it goes away.c) usually if you call the place, they'll take it off. i've had this happen before. i didn't even need the receipt. actually, the time i called was after a bar ran my credit card like 5 times for the same amount. they didn't fix it within a few days, so i just called my bank, said i'd already talk to the place, and could they please handle it. it got fixed asap. d) go work in the food service industry, spoiled tww brats, before you bitch about tipping and blah blah blah. saying that someone "chose" that career as justification for thinking you are better than them and therefore don't need to tip well, since its their own fault they are where they are, is fucked up. a lot of people work food or retail jobs as SECOND jobs, and even if they don't, fuck you for judging their lifestyle. they're still working for a living and not begging for change off the street. oh and plus, not all bad service is the fault of the waitstaff. kitchens run behind, people fuck up. and what sucks is that it gets taken out on the waitstaff. if the kitchen fucks up an order or takes too long i lose tip, while the chefs on salary don't really have to worry that much. doesn't usually directly impact them. they aren't the ones getting bitched at by customers because a chicken wing ain't fried extra crispy.
3/18/2008 5:11:15 PM
^ Unfortunately that gray area probably could screw over a lot of establishments if everyone who got really drunk called and contested, because the burden of proof is on the restaurant. Fortunately most people don't seem to do that.
3/18/2008 5:11:23 PM
Where do you people bank? Whenever I eat out somewhere, my account never has an "initial" withdrawal and then another one. Same thing with pumping gas, I've never seen this. It always comes out as one transaction and is never altered.
3/18/2008 5:18:20 PM
shawna hasn't posted yet. its because she's a slut
3/18/2008 5:44:25 PM
^^^ that's why it's the wait staff that gets tipped not the kitchen staffthey have to deal with it
3/18/2008 5:46:40 PM
^ well yes, but my point is that customers do not realize that it isn't ALL the waitstaffs fault. yes, there are bad waiters. but even my mom gets pissed if things take SLIGHTLY longer than expected. some waiters totally just blow it off, but when i waitressed i would try to be apologetic to my table and do everything possible to get their meal out. i'd try to get part of it comped if it was really bad/really slow. or i'd at least try to get them a free app while they were waiting. and after ALL that, i'd still get no tip or like 8%. so yes, that is why waitstaff get tipped, but sadly instead of getting tipped on their job performance, they usually get tipped on the customers overall satisfaction with the food, experience, NOISE LEVEL??? i'm sorry i'm not back their cookin the food. and if you don't like noise, don't eat in a sports bar. but don't blame me if your chair was uncomfortable or you didn't like your meal. fuck that.
