I didn't have a beer today, as in Monday, because it was not St. Patrick's Day.

St Patty's sucked this year because there was no cohesive celebration. Some people drank on the 17th, others did on the 15th.

^^ most people drink on the 15th anyway (saturday), which made it the bigger celebration in my opinion (downtown raleigh shutting down in some places didn't hurt).

Hence, you had normal saturday drinkers, people doing saint patties because it was the actual holiday, and then most of your working crowd who were like shit why not celebrate it on saturday since other people are then we won't have to call in tuesday or be hungover.

on the 17th you probably had college students, work people who still did the 17th, and people who did both nights.

the celebration on the 15th would have been bigger if half the people I know didn't think it was on the 17th.

^ changing it happens once during each century (holy week/easter is never this early), so don't worry it won't happen again during your meaningless lifetime (2160 is the next one according to cnn).

whats up with this 15th/17th thing? i thought it was always the 17th (i read up on this a couple weeks ago, before that i thought it was on a friday always and got confused one morning)

every person i've seen in person AND online have argued that st pattys day is the 15th... they've done it in a troll-like manner. its like they're daring someone to challenge them and say otherwise.

so i'll bite. why is everyone wrong for thinking it was the 17th? i saw 1000x more green yesterday.

"Irish bishops move St. Patrick's Day 2008 over conflict with Holy Week

Dublin, Jul 19, 2007 / 10:42 am (CNA).- Religions celebrations for St. Patrick's Day will come two days early in Ireland next year to avoid a conflict with Holy Week.

St. Patrick's Day is usually celebrated March 17, but Ireland's bishops have shifted the feast day, in honor of the national saint, to Saturday, March 15, reported The Associated Press.

Church authorities reportedly spent weeks debating where to move the feast day because March 17, 2008, falls on the second day of Holy Week next year.

The liturgical norms would require the feast day to be moved to the earliest available date after Easter, which would be April 1. But church officials said the Vatican approved the March 15 date in order to minimize conflict with the scheduled civic events.

While religious celebrations honoring St. Patrick are affected, religious and secular authorities stressed this would not change secular festivities. The St. Patrick's Festival Committee in Dublin confirmed that next year's parade would be March 17 as usual. In addition, Monday, March 17, will remain an official day off of work in Ireland.

This marks the first time the date has been changed since 1940. The next conflict with Holy Week is not expected until 2160."

oh so in other words it doesnt really affect the average american st pattys day celebration. since the majority of us would be considered 'secular' -- at least as far as roman catholics or whatever are concerned

so is it safe to say that the people who were trying to start arguments are either douchebags or affiliated with the church? cause that seems to stress that this change doesnt matter to party people!!11

cause lets face it, the average american has no idea what the real meaning of st patricks day is (me included before this year when i got confused about the date a few weeks ago and looked it up. even now i'm not 100% sure about the meaning)

I made the mistake of trying to get my corned beef at the Jones Franklin Harris Teeter. Damn store didn't have any in the deli and I had to go all the way back to the Cameron Village store. (though, in fairness, not only did they have it, but it was on quite the sale).

Reuben==tastiest way ever to eat the traditional corned beef & cabbage.
