Anyone doing the open holster protest for SCCC (Students for Concealed Carry on Campus)? Wear an empty holster to class to protest ban on ccw on campus's. I think its the third week in april?
3/17/2008 6:20:26 PM
there are actually people who are against being protected on campus?thats weird.
3/17/2008 6:24:57 PM
Somebody lemme borrow a holster.
3/17/2008 7:11:22 PM
if anything, go get a toy one.i used to have two, but ive only got one now. not sure what happened to the other.or goto your local range and tell them about this protest. leave them some something so you can borrow it.
3/17/2008 7:14:02 PM
i would participate if i was on campus this semester
3/17/2008 8:11:44 PM
so wait, you guys are protesting so you can be allowed to carry weapons on campus?haha I <3 America...
3/17/2008 8:22:04 PM
Why not? What makes campus any different from any place else? Other than being the only place where you can be mugged in broad daylight by a man with a gun, and have no chance at self defense because the law requires you leave your own gun at home?
3/17/2008 8:24:40 PM
FUCK YES I AM PARTICIPATING IN THIS. Do they have pamphlets and things that you can download so I can hand shit out? I try to remain out of politics as much as possible, but the right to bear arms is the one thing I FUCKING BELIEVE IN.
3/17/2008 8:35:22 PM

3/17/2008 9:05:04 PM

republican is a cop. id imagine he could carry anywhere as long as he registers or something. dont you have to check in?

CCW permit holders also have to submit finger prints to the county.....and yes, they are the least likely to commit gun violence and are generally very responsible and well trained with their weapons. generally if someone cares enough to spend the $$$ and time to get the permit, they are serious about being knowledgeable with the weapon[Edited on March 17, 2008 at 9:15 PM. 3/17/2008 9:12:55 PM
its funny how A LOT of people thing that its just "random people with guns on campus". and "someone could just take your gun".like ^ said its not like you goto the range and pay $5 to take a course to shoot at the range.its a bit more intense.
3/17/2008 9:13:53 PM
yep im not a big gun fan myself, but i can certainly see where an armed student could have picked off that fucker at VT long before all the shit got serious. i'm all for this]
3/17/2008 9:17:30 PM
it will not happen i dont think....ie liberal academia, but im all for it
3/17/2008 9:20:15 PM
yeah. i think a lot of us know it will not happen.but i am 100% for it though. so say CCW was allowed on campus'. that would mean some people who work for the univ. would be carrying, now is that something that could be used against you for a job? i guess so. but that would suck.
3/17/2008 9:22:27 PM
i know you can do the whole self-defense thing... but are you allowed to use your own concealed weapon if you feel that SOMEONE ELSE'S life is in danger? if someone pulls a gun on my coworker and has their back turned to me, can i shoot them in the back of the head and get away with it?
3/17/2008 9:23:44 PM
absolutely, defense of a third party is totally legal......well to clarify it depends on the situation, but in that case then yes deadly force in defense of a third party is justified, for civilians and cops[Edited on March 17, 2008 at 9:26 PM. Reason : .]
3/17/2008 9:25:09 PM
thats the same Q i asked in fumblers thread. i believe in defense its allowed, but i dont think you can shoot someone in the back when they arent "armed"[Edited on March 17, 2008 at 9:26 PM. Reason : ^ i thought you couldnt shoot someone in the back. they are unarmed and trying to get away? ]
3/17/2008 9:25:24 PM
now what are the odds of having to sit in jail until you prove that you were defending someone else?thats the part that would scare me the most about carrying. using it legally and then having to go through jail and court just to clear my name.^yeah im only talking about a situation where i see someone with a gun pointed at someone else, and the aggressor can't see me]
3/17/2008 9:26:06 PM
better to be judged by 12 then carried by 6
3/17/2008 9:26:52 PM
see i would be warry that since they didnt shoot, it would be totally legit. but i know the fact they pulled a gun is probably enough for you to use self defense.
3/17/2008 9:27:16 PM
i'd actually rather be dead than to sit in the county jail for years waiting for a trial to start and play out
3/17/2008 9:28:04 PM
how much of a fucking backwards redneck do you have to be to think carrying handguns on university campuses is a GOOD idea?
3/17/2008 9:30:16 PM
well rednecks typically carry shotguns and rifles.
3/17/2008 9:31:31 PM
~im scared someone might cho seung hui me guys~
3/17/2008 9:32:22 PM
Scrump, you obviously don't know they types of people who go through the trouble of legally concealing handguns.Believe me, if the shit ever hit the fan those are the people you want to be next to.The protest isn't in favor of allowing everyone to carry handguns. It is in favor of allowing concealed handguns carried by concealed handgun license holders.
3/17/2008 9:36:03 PM
why is it a bad idea, mr scrumples? people are carrying them all around you now as it is... you just don't know it because they have a permit to conceal it. its not like you hear much about law abiding concealed carry people doing crazy crimes.
3/17/2008 9:36:48 PM
3/17/2008 9:38:48 PM
You guys have valid points I suppose. But on campuses and such I don't agree with it.
3/17/2008 9:39:09 PM
mr scrumples doesnt want guns in our churches either~
3/17/2008 9:40:14 PM
well, them lowering it but still brandishing it in a threatening manner would still be justified to my understanding
3/17/2008 9:40:59 PM
3/17/2008 9:42:43 PM
yup
3/17/2008 9:43:26 PM
there wouldn't even be a way to prove what position the gun was in anyway so what you're arguing sounds stupid. When I got robbed at gunpoint I never once thought I wanted to go out and get a handgun and such afterwards. I dealt with it and moved on.
3/17/2008 9:43:50 PM
well it's about time someone got even for the spanish inquisition.
3/17/2008 9:44:48 PM
^^ surveillance cameras
3/17/2008 9:45:55 PM
In the classroom?
3/17/2008 9:47:05 PM
i thought in NC you cant shoot someone in the back.
3/17/2008 9:47:31 PM
the anti gun people are largely arguing from a purely emotional level, they simply dont realize the logic and rationality of the situation. Sure, we would all like to live in a world without guns, violence, crime etc....but that is not reality. Criminals will always have them, all the laws and restrictions do is hurt honest people from defending themselves. The whole point of concealed carry is that it benefits everyone because a criminal doesn't know who is armed and it can possibly make them more cautious. if more HONEST and RESPONSIBLE people were armed and the thugs knew it, i am certain crime against random people would drop.
3/17/2008 9:48:18 PM
You can shoot them in the back...if they're threatening someone's life or doing great bodily harm to them.
3/17/2008 9:48:32 PM
ok. you just cant shoot them if they running away is kind of what i meant.
3/17/2008 9:49:24 PM
if they no longer pose a threat a civilian cant shoot them if they are running away.....a cop can shoot someone if they are running away under certain special circumstances
3/17/2008 9:50:32 PM
i still cant get over how [stereotypical] liberals treat the classroom the same way that their conservative counterparts treat the church. sure its ok that the guy beside me in mcdonalds is carrying a gun... BUT NOT IN MY CLASSROOM!
3/17/2008 9:54:31 PM
say one of the VT students had a gun on him and shot the shooter.what do you think would happen to the student?
3/17/2008 9:56:33 PM
Before this gets moved to the soapbox, I'd just like to say that I think there are 99 million ways to die and whether or not you believe you have some destiny in a gun fight on a college campus, you surely can't believe everybody else buys into this nonsense. There are certain situations where having a gun could be beneficial, such as working at a convenience mart at 3am. But being prepared and fearing something to the point where you think having a gun on you in school are two different ballparks. Who's emotional and who's rational about this? Surely I'm not the only one that thinks this is a stupid idea for people righteous enough to wanna carry guns around to "be prepared." [Edited on March 17, 2008 at 10:09 PM. Reason : t]
