3/17/2008 12:58:13 PM
thanks!
3/17/2008 1:02:58 PM
what does this mean?!did you get approved to study radiology?
3/17/2008 1:07:57 PM
For residency, it's not like you get offers and get to accept/reject them. We each make a list ranking the programs where we interviewed, each program makes a list ranking the applicants, and a computer system matches us up to spots. I just got my notice today that I successfully matched. So yes, this means I get to do a radiology residency.
3/17/2008 1:10:49 PM
well congratulations to you, good sir.
3/17/2008 1:12:04 PM
i work next to the radiology dept. at UNC.then fools are always yellin and stuff[Edited on March 17, 2008 at 1:14 PM. Reason : congrats btw]
3/17/2008 1:12:15 PM
Thanks. They don't release the location until Thursday, though, so there's still more waiting.
3/17/2008 1:12:47 PM
Congrats! My wife got matched into Anesthesiology. Thursday's the day where we find out where we'll be living for the next 4 years...
3/17/2008 1:13:24 PM
so they can put you in any hospital they want?lol this sounds like the damn military [Edited on March 17, 2008 at 1:14 PM. Reason : that hoping you are a star thing is a joke, i'll keep this serious. for reals though, gratz.]
3/17/2008 1:13:25 PM
^not any hospital, just the places I ranked (i.e., the ones where I interviewed)^^congratulations to her! Anesthesia's definitely a quality field.
3/17/2008 1:14:48 PM
yeah, i'm happy with that choice as well. Her other area of interest was surgery, but if she picked that, i don't think i'd see her again till she retired. What programs did you rank/are you hoping for?our top 3 are UNC, Duke, and Univ. of Utah.
3/17/2008 1:16:36 PM
^ one of those is not like the others.]
3/17/2008 1:17:39 PM
^^My #1 would be to stay at Wake--the rads department here is top-notch.After that, I really liked Mississippi, South Alabama, and a hospital in Miami Beach.
3/17/2008 1:19:57 PM
congrats! how many years is the program? and are we talking diagnostic or interventional?
3/17/2008 1:25:51 PM
that's rad!
3/17/2008 1:26:41 PM
Intern + four years after thatAll rads residencies are diagnostic--you do the interventional fellowship afterward, if that's what you're interested in. There are programs that allow you to apply as interventional, but they're just combined residency/fellowship--it's just a way to streamline the process if you already know that you want to do interventional.
3/17/2008 1:27:32 PM
cool man. so do you get reamed intern year like everyone else, or are they soft on rads
3/17/2008 1:30:21 PM
Congratulations! Don't let your position get outsourced, though.
3/17/2008 1:31:22 PM
so i heard radiologists make alot of money
3/17/2008 1:32:42 PM
^^^reamed like everyone. I'll be doing basically a prelim year on internal medicine, with a couple of months of electives.^^I was a bit concerned about that before I started applying, but I talked to a bunch of practicing physicians who didn't think it's an issue. Really, a lot of private-practice radiologists use outsourcing to their advantage--hiring overseas contractors to take the night/weekend call so they can have more time off.
3/17/2008 1:35:53 PM
my aunt is an ER doctor and she was telling me that they use radiologists overseas at night b/c they have to since no one here's awake, not really b/c they want to.i realize this carries no weight in anything, just thought i'd share
3/17/2008 1:40:24 PM
congrats dave. but i couldn't resist posting this.
3/17/2008 1:47:50 PM
^^^ Good to hear. I mean, resources will flow to the most efficient outputs--but there are trade-offs, you know?^
3/17/2008 1:48:33 PM
Congrats!
3/17/2008 2:01:42 PM
3/17/2008 2:24:55 PM
Congrats on the match. I've heard the same things about outsourcing and I don't think it is a problem. There is too much liability in sending your files electronically, let alone out of the country to be read. Its not significantly cheaper to do it overseas from what I've heard also....its just a matter of finding someone to read them after hours.
3/17/2008 4:10:34 PM
Ole Miss!
3/20/2008 3:11:03 PM
will you be attending school at ole miss or interning in their hospital?[Edited on March 20, 2008 at 3:13 PM. Reason : i really am kindof interested, although i have no plans whatsoever in medicine]
3/20/2008 3:13:11 PM
Doing residency there
3/20/2008 3:14:16 PM
now is residency different than interning? doctors do both right?
3/20/2008 3:16:42 PM
Intern = first year after graduation. I'll be doing that in Baltimore.Residency = years of training including and after intern year
3/20/2008 3:17:34 PM
^^ google is your friend. residency = post-medical school training (i.e. you have an MD, thus are technically a doctor). intern year = first year of residency[Edited on March 20, 2008 at 3:19 PM. Reason : ]
3/20/2008 3:18:49 PM
so you haven't interned yet?^ why would i google when there's a guy right here who's willing to answer questions? not to mention if i was going to look this up, i'd either a) watch scrubs or b) go straight to wikipedia[Edited on March 20, 2008 at 3:19 PM. Reason : .]
3/20/2008 3:18:59 PM
so where is BobbyDigital going to be living the next 4 years?
3/20/2008 3:19:09 PM
wait you're doing the intern year in Baltimore? what's up there?
3/20/2008 3:21:22 PM
I GUESS GOOGLE LET YOU DOWN.DaveOT would never do that.
3/20/2008 3:23:43 PM
haha way to take it personally, chumpbesides, there's a big difference between asking "durrr whats a residency" and "why do you do an intern year in one place and the rest of the residency in another"[Edited on March 20, 2008 at 3:27 PM. Reason : ]
3/20/2008 3:26:30 PM
3/20/2008 3:37:38 PM
haha
3/20/2008 3:55:24 PM
^^^ actually, chump, if you read the conversation, it went like this:me: you're going to school at ole miss or interning?daveot: residencyme: is that different than interning? [THE QUESTION HERE WAS B/C I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT INTERNING CAME FIRST, BUT HE WAS SEEMINGLY GOING STRAIGHT TO RESIDENCY]daveot: no, i'm doing my interning in baltimore. excellent question though, i can see how that was misleading. btw, that benz guy is a real chump.]
3/20/2008 3:57:08 PM
3/20/2008 4:17:48 PM
First, Congrats DaveOT! Make sure you get a bulletproof vest.
3/21/2008 7:31:17 AM
Congrats! I'm in my Radiology class in vet school now and it's really enjoyable.
