you think NC will get hit this year?
3/15/2008 4:22:52 PM
lets hope so, we saw what happens when we don't get the major rain from one
3/15/2008 9:33:19 PM
Ah yes, the depressing nature of our state truly comes out. We are entirely dependent upon random events for our water supply. With that said, I'm banking on some storms, too.Isn't this supposed to be one of the hottest summers on record (again)? Could be another weird drought year.
3/15/2008 11:38:09 PM
Isn't everyone dependent on entirely random events for water supply?Besides, the Inner and Outer Banks don't have a drought right now, and considering how hurricanes usually just skirt the coast, the effect of the hurricane inland will likely be minimal.[Edited on March 16, 2008 at 11:52 AM. let it hit florida and work it's way up.
3/16/2008 11:55:30 AM
looks like drought is over...no need for storms now
4/6/2008 2:00:50 PM
still an extreme droubtwill probably be moved to severe on monday.http://www.drought.unl.edu/DM/DM_state.htm?NC,SE

Tropical system rains will do more harm than good Any money you save in crops from the water of a storm will be eaten up the cost in storm damage and loss in tourism revenue. Thats of the crops that survive the inland winds, depending on the strength at landfall. As for resupply of the watershed for human consumption...I don't have much pity. You'll figure out a way to consume whats necessary to survive and nothing more...if that's that it comes to. Maybe you can run pipes into the ocean and draw water from there, to a desalination plant or something.Oh wait, you can't drive on the beach to lay the pipes. Nevermind.
4/6/2008 9:51:02 PM
^depends on how strong the storm is.....a tropical depression or weak tropical storm would be highly beneficial (except for isolated storms, and possible severe flooding situations)
4/7/2008 9:49:01 AM
4/7/2008 10:04:53 AM
^temperatures aren't the only thing that hurricanes depend on but warmer water does mean stronger (and more) hurricanes.[Edited on April 7, 2008 at 10:49 AM. Reason : and more]

Carribean blob
5/30/2008 12:39:01 PM
can't officially be a hurricane till sunday
5/30/2008 12:47:51 PM
why the hell not? it doesn't have to be hurricane season to be a hurricane.
5/30/2008 12:55:21 PM
*ding*
5/30/2008 1:07:50 PM
*zing*
5/30/2008 9:38:04 PM
Just saw the Carribean blob on the local news here in FL as well. Just glad that it is staying down to the south so that it doesn't effect the launch tomorrow.
5/30/2008 11:25:50 PM
^but then after the launch I'm sure it'll be a sight for sore eyes for all those people suffering from the Florida wildfires.
5/30/2008 11:48:40 PM
hopefully, i like storms
6/5/2008 9:11:48 AM
blob near the islands
6/13/2008 12:41:43 AM
would that be a ULL in the Bay of Campeche?
6/13/2008 1:42:02 AM
the blob was near the Carribean islands, it has since gone poof.
6/13/2008 8:04:32 PM
yea I saw it there in the northern islands...it did go poof
6/14/2008 2:05:36 AM
poof
6/14/2008 4:06:19 AM
might be Bertha off Africa in a day or three.
7/1/2008 8:31:12 PM
Interesting to see possible development that far out this early in the season, but until the winds rolling through the islands start to diminish nothing is going to make it through that section of ocean yet.
7/1/2008 8:55:10 PM
If another Bertha hit us...that would just be redundant.
7/1/2008 11:37:25 PM
Considering the fact that my tobacco has been hit by tomato spotted wilt virus, hornworms, budworms, and a bad drought, Murphy's law says that a hurricane is coming.
7/2/2008 8:15:38 AM
Should see Bertha today, appears to be getting its act together rather quickly now
7/3/2008 8:59:36 AM
i really hope we get a hurricane. we need the rain, the evans road fire needs the rain (so Fumbler can come home and stay home), as long as rocky mount doesn't completely flood again.

And Bertha is on her way!!!!
7/7/2008 8:44:15 AM
Yep on her way to ruin someones vacation in Bermuda
7/7/2008 10:34:32 AM
I'm glad a live a good 100+ miles west of my hometown during hurricane season.seeing this was a bad feeling.
7/7/2008 10:48:30 AM
Make that major hurricane Bertha now, its very early in the season to have such a strong storm that isnt parked in the gulf or carribean, could be a sign of things to come
7/7/2008 9:47:18 PM
7/7/2008 9:55:27 PM
Looks like things are starting to get heated up, likely a new depression forming in the next day of two headed towards the islands.
7/14/2008 4:33:06 PM
Something interesting off the gulf coast of FL. Not anything serious but could get its act together enough to give the drought-ridden southern Appalachians some good rains?
7/16/2008 1:21:29 AM
btttWe might have a tropical depression off the GA/SC coast by the end of today (and possibly Tropical Storm Cristobal if it sits over the warm ocean long enough). If you look to the southeast right now, you can see the leading edge of thunderstorms associated with the system. I'm getting a pretty good look at it from my 5th floor office window at Jordan Hall Looks like it's gonna be an interesting weekend.
7/18/2008 12:46:19 PM
we're not going to get much rain from thisand the mountains will get even less
