with a lot of games going down the wire in march lets discuss scenario strategy. my biggest gripe is how many coaches don't understand clock management in the final minute of a game. Sidney lowe for example let duke run the clock down to like 5 seconds. tied or down: your ball and a reasonable ammount more than 35 seconds left-if its 48 seconds pretend their are 10 seconds left and plan to get a shot off in the first ten seconds. This gurantees you to get the ball back with a reasonable amount of time on the clock make or miss. that way if you score and the other team comes down and hits a 3 the game isn't over for you. And if you don't score the other team can't just run the clock out for the last shot. down:other teams ball-if its less than 45 seconds you need to foul or run a 35 seconds of hell frantic trap defense to try and get steals or force a quick shot. by no means do you sit back and let them run it down and shoot.

i don't agree with sid's choice to leave only 5 seconds against duke.i think more coaches shoudl be willing to foul instead of letting a team get a shot off. but our opinions ultimately don't matter.

Draw it up, coach Earl--Are you suggesting that if you're tied and on defense, you should foul?[Edited on March 15, 2008 at 2:54 PM. Reason : ]

My biggest gripe is when its a tie game and the guy handling the ball doesn't go to the basket. Two possibilities if you have the ball and are saving for the last shot:- You pull up for a jumper and miss and the game is over (possibility of getting a rebound and put back depending on how much time is left when you shoot).- You drive to the basket and make a shot or you potentially get fouled (much smaller chance of getting fouled if you pull up for a jumper) and have a chance to make a free throw and win the game (also a possibility here of getting a put back). That's all I have to say on this subject. And yes...Sidney fucked up against Duke with the "not fouling" decision. You always extend the game win that situation.

man, so much of this years momentum hinged on that duke gamewe win... we at least go to the NIT maybe more, who knowswe lose... we all know how that turned out

I think the Duke game only counted as one loss

sounds like you've never played on a winning team before. b/c winning is a habit. and it starts with big wins like that.
