I know that some of the people on here are associated with local animal protection societies and such. I am trying to adopt a dog from Carolina Animal Protection Society in Onslow County, and I need to have a home visit done. They told me to contact local agencies to see if any of them could do one for me. I was wondering if anyone has the phone number or contact information for a society that would do that. I would really appreciate any help you all could give me. Thanks!

I'm not trying to be rude or sarcastic, but isn't it kind of ridiculous to have to have a home visit to take an unwanted dog so it won't be killed? You're getting a dog, not adopting a child. I've noticed that on craigslist even some people who are selling livestock are saying that they are charging a "rehoming fee" for "adoption" instead of just saying that they are selling a goat, horse, etc... for x dollars. I sell a lot of chickens to people who see my ads online, but selling them is what I'm doing, not "rehoming" them. I'm all for the humane treatment of animals, but some people act like they are human.

^ Thats because people are trying to get by with selling their animals on craigslist by putting them up for *adoption* or *rehoming* them. I breed chins and cockatiels and I can't sell my animals on there because Craigslist wont allow it, therefore I have to reword it and say *Chinchilla for adoption* but can't give too much details because I'll be flagged. There are A LOT of new policies now with animals (not just Craigslist). I'm in the process of getting another chin from a rescue and I've got to go through A LOT of crap (even though I have over 30 animals of my own) because so many animals are being mistreated or not cared for.

I did those things and I found some answers before I posted, but thanks for the suggestion. I just know that there are some people on here that are part of rescue organizations and who foster animals, and I was really hoping that one of them might respond so that I could get this done in a timely manner.

yea if you adopt through a rescue group you have to go through so much bullshit. i mean i kind of get it because a lot of people get pets that shouldn't and there's some percentage of pets that get returned to the animal shelter because "it didn't work out." i mean fuckers adopt a dog and then move to an apt that doesn't allow pets, so they get rid of the dog??? ok, smart move. but i ALSO don't really get the hurdles some rescues (even the SPCA) force you to go through. if i'm paying a $100+ adoption fee, i'm probably in it for the long haul. plus if you have references that check out, that seems like enough? some places won't adopt out to you if you don't have a fenced in yard. taht is just ridiculous because throwing a dog out into a fenced in yard 24/7 doesn't solve any problems it can create behavior problems in a dog. i can understand some of the requirements, just because the fact that there are so many unwanted animals shows that tons of people are too irresponsible for a pet, but its also stupid to require so much of people who actually want a pet, are committed, and have the time to devote to it.

^ Your agency screwed my b/f and me. We adopted a cat and they guaranteed she'd been checked by a vet. 2 days later we had to rush her to emergency because her eye was eating itself. We had 3 vets look at it and all agreed it was from an infection she had previous to us adopting her.

$1500 later we have a 1 eyed cat, but still am a tad bitter.

The SPCA is a joke. You can get a kid from a third world country easier than you can get a dog from there. Also if you are looking for smaller breeds they never have any.

I agree with what they are trying to do but at the same time the method seems absurd. I would rather go to a dog pound and pick up one thats on the verge of being put down than spend half a day at the SPCA filling out forms and then be told the application takes weeks.

I said I fostered for them. Every puppy I fostered for them was seen by a vet (crossroads vet) within days of being placed in the program.
I'm sorry that happened to you. Perhaps the previous foster parents didn't notice the infection and it went undetected.
All BFPA animals are seen by a vet - fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered and dewormed.

I wouldn't say BFPA screwed you. Whoever had the cat didn't notice a problem or it wasn't apparent until it was out of their care.

I was beyond pissed, but I didn't want to raise a stink and make the agency pay for it. Realistically I know ya'll are usually independent foster homes etc and it's a non-profit organization, so sueing would have been pretty asshole.

Least she's happy and healthy, getting into shit, and such...but I'd still never adopt from BFPA again.

Did you contact anyone in BFPA when the vet diagnosed the cat?
They probably would have at least helped with the vet bills. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

I'm sorry that happened to your cat. I would be upset too. Many of my animals have racked up large vet bills.
