It just goes to show how out of touch these assholes are.
3/13/2008 10:01:09 AM
from what I read the way it was presented was extremely shady too....basically no advanced notice that there was even going to be a vote about it.
3/13/2008 10:03:06 AM
^ That's what I'm saying. Meeker is a complete toolbag. I'm glad I don't live in Raleigh and the people who voted him in deserve this shit.
3/13/2008 10:07:42 AM
meeker pisses me off.he talks big about things like predatory towing, yet not a damn thing has been done to stop it.he was late in enforcing water restrictions due to the drought, and now that it has rained a little bit, he is the first one to suggest we start reducing the restrictions. no fucking thought of the future.and this garbage disposal shit? I will continue to use mine, and I imagine most of raleigh will too.
3/13/2008 1:23:40 PM
Can anyone think of something intelligent that the city has done lately?
3/13/2008 1:51:39 PM
^ The 88.6 million Raleigh Parks bond. They are building a new Aquatics facility off of Buffaloe Rd. And filling it with some water. From the nitrogen infused Neuse.Of course, I believe they just put low flow devices in their pool system. Might take longer to fill it up, but they will meet water restriction requirements
3/13/2008 2:03:43 PM
Seriously? Banning new garbage disposals? SERIOUSLY?Thank you, aging liberal hippy douche.
3/14/2008 1:08:15 AM
Its as much about water conservation as it is about grease. People with garbage disposals pour much more grease into the city's sewer system, causing expensive blockages.
3/14/2008 1:11:29 AM
^If we let them, politicians like mayor Meeker will regulate us all back to the stone-age.The point is that we pay all these taxes. Fixing the sewer system so it can function like 99% of the rest of the country is not asking for much. The 2007 Raleigh city budget has 7% allocated for solid waste treatment. It has 11% devoted to "Leisure Services".
3/14/2008 8:57:45 AM
The People's Republic of Raleigh is out of control. As I understand it, the primary justification of this disposal ban was that drain lines are being clogged by grease. Did any council members consider that people have been pouring and still can pour grease directly down the drains without the need for disposals?
3/14/2008 9:37:59 AM
^ That and I doubt this will stop a lot of people (because there are a lot of idiots out there) from trying to put stuff down the drain. Now it's just going to cause plumbing issues in their homes rather than in the city's pipes ... but good going Raleigh, it's not their problem anymore.[Edited on March 14, 2008 at 10:09 AM. Reason : and by stuff I mean solids]
3/14/2008 9:59:22 AM
3/14/2008 10:08:06 AM
i collect all my grease into a can and keep it til fullthen i throw the can away
3/14/2008 10:18:21 AM
^^ Hey, with compliments like that who needs insults, right, BobbyNutrider?
3/14/2008 10:30:58 AM
"People's Republic of Raleigh" LMAO
3/16/2008 7:30:33 PM
Ban starts today.
3/17/2008 8:16:09 AM
I for one will continue to use mine, and if/when it breaks, I will install a new one myself, mark my word.
3/17/2008 8:20:48 AM
Wow, just wow.
3/17/2008 8:22:10 AM
Seriously, good luck enforcing this. You're not going to stop anyone who really wants one from ordering one online and then googling "how to install a garbage disposal". That and the shear number of disposals already installed in this city makes this just goofy.
3/17/2008 8:53:11 AM
retardedthis solves no problems
3/17/2008 9:07:44 AM
3/17/2008 9:09:07 AM
was at Lowe's at the Crossroads in Cary yesterday and they had the normal selection of disposals and i saw a couple people buying them.
3/17/2008 9:16:22 AM
i was under the impression that garbage disposals had already been banned in raleigh for a while.^cary != raleigh[Edited on March 17, 2008 at 9:18 AM. Reason : .]
3/17/2008 9:17:25 AM
^^Here's a recap of the Disposal ban...Most of the World: LEGALRaleigh: ILLEGAL
3/17/2008 9:50:48 AM
no john, this is just a recent development, and one that is quite moronic as well.
3/17/2008 9:52:05 AM
well i know someone who wanted to get his garbage disposal fixed a while back and couldn't find a plumber in raleigh to do it, because of a ban on garbage disposals
3/17/2008 10:00:30 AM
lawl, idiots, most of them.
3/17/2008 10:02:20 AM
3/17/2008 10:10:13 AM
so not having a disposal prevents a person from putting grease down the line? what a bunch of idiots.
3/17/2008 10:10:29 AM
it stops people from putting most sorts of food down the drain.
3/17/2008 10:13:27 AM
no it doesn't just means shit gets clogged in the house pipes first
3/17/2008 10:14:11 AM
yeah if you're an idiot and like to clog your own pipes all the time. most smart people would just not put food down the drain if you don't have a garbage disposal.
3/17/2008 10:15:16 AM
3/17/2008 10:15:32 AM
often times those two things go hand in hand.
3/17/2008 10:16:22 AM
maybe, but if you grill some bacon or something, you could easily pour the grease down your drain without a disposal. Of course, this could 1) melt your drain pipes if it's still hot, or 2) just clog your drains
3/17/2008 10:59:30 AM
3/17/2008 11:04:32 AM
I imagine renters are folks of that ilk will do whatever is more convenient for them. Why would I care about clogged pipes if I'm renting my place from someone else. Let the landlord deal with it if and when it gets clogged. This ban solves nothing.
3/17/2008 11:05:35 AM
3/17/2008 11:38:45 AM
Wow, yeah so I definitely collect grease (bucket under sink) already because I always thought it wasn't a good idea to throw it down the sink and am seriously just debating dumping it down some drain out of spite now.
3/17/2008 12:24:53 PM
i typically throw the bacon grease and what not into the yard. So sue me.
3/17/2008 12:33:26 PM
^ Oh I don't care, it's just a habit I picked up for whatever reason. Now I'm rethinking if I should care though.
3/17/2008 12:58:46 PM
^^^^ If your existing disposal quits working, you're not allowed to replace it. I lodged complaints about the ban with the mayor and the city council today. From what I heard, I was one among many.
3/17/2008 4:05:40 PM
this is asinine. despite these assholes taking money out of my pocket as a plumbing contractor, the reasoning makes zero sense logistically. there is no way they actually consulted anyone in the know before doing this. 1. disposals do nothing to flush away grease. if anything, they HELP keep less of it out of the sewer because more of it's going to be sitting in the bottom, stuck to the sides, etc. of the appliance.2. the majority of people that own a disposal understand what's good/bad to put down drains. i've seen FAR more ridiculous stuff put down normal drains. not to say there aren't the few people out there trying to grind up the entire contents of their trash can...3. there are these neat little things called grease traps for this very reason. if they're SO concerned about this, require grease traps to be installed at private residences like they already are for restaurants, etc.4. what about all the chemicals like liquid plumber, draino, etc. that are now going to get dumped into sinks more? i'm sure that's much better for the environment! also, in case these retards don't know most of that stuff congeals or hardens to pipe walls worse than grease.5. what shall we do about everything else that causes grease build up in pipes? you know, like oils from our body, soap, shampoo, hair, etc.? hell, lets just ban indoor plumbing all together!the current mayor/council has made some idiotic moves, but this has got to be the worst so far. i really hope the decision was about water conservation and they wanted to mask it for some reason. at least that would make a little sense, disposals do require additional water to properly operate.
3/17/2008 4:19:04 PM
Fuck the Neuse River, I'm all about conserving our resources but that river's beyond repair
3/17/2008 4:21:13 PM
its sad that i will have to wear sunglasses, a hat and pay with cash to buy a new disposal if mine breaks
3/17/2008 4:35:50 PM
^If you replace your "garbage disposal" with a "food de-processor" you won't have any problems.
3/17/2008 6:58:08 PM
If you need a new disposal, just buy one in cary, and then post on craigslist for someone to install it for you. Plenty of qualified, able people who can do it without worry about their plumbers license being revoked.
