I have a problem. same one I have with the motorcycle. Can't stop myself. How do you convince yourself your computer is done, and leave it alone?I have a p182 case I got for $60, nice case but I have the urge to sell it (hopefully for what I paid for it, only a few weeks old) and get a nine hundred. No reason other than I just really want the nine hundred.
3/11/2008 3:50:16 PM
you have a problem.
3/11/2008 3:51:34 PM
just get the nine hundred, i have one and i love my dust trap/wind tunnel
3/11/2008 3:52:17 PM
You don't even want to hear about the motorcycle. It's got over 18k miles on it, and more aftermarket parts than stock. Going to get some powder coating and paint done next.
3/11/2008 3:53:39 PM
are you white or black
3/11/2008 3:54:44 PM
lol, pasty white female. Notice I said powder coating and NOT chrome.
3/11/2008 3:58:51 PM
I don't stop... I just got a new sound card and memory because they were on sale this week.I change one thing at least once a month. I have a P180 case and I am convinced it's the best case period. That and the fact that I don't have the time or patience to change cases and motherboards all the time. But I have four computers so I cycle through them so each one has more uptime.FWIW, the nine-hundred isn't all that different, a couple larger fans, and a clear side panel for more bling i guess... i like the look of the P180/182 better[Edited on March 11, 2008 at 4:10 PM. Sad thing is that the computer isn't even done. I have a 15" 1024 x 768 LCD right now until I can find a sweet deal on 2 better monitors.
3/11/2008 4:14:05 PM
damn that sounds like torture
3/11/2008 4:23:19 PM
^^You're joking about the monitor, right?
3/11/2008 4:36:40 PM
Nope, got the monitor for $20, need to be on the lookout for a sweet deal on a HannsG.
3/11/2008 4:42:17 PM
^ Buy something worth a damn.
3/11/2008 4:57:30 PM
seriously, HannsG? did you see this thread -/message_topic.aspx?topic=517180can't be horrible, nearly every single one of their LCD's are 5/5 on the egg w/ all over 100+ reviews:http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=50011143%2040000020[Edited on March 11, 2008 at 5:00 PM. So who has the best warranty and dead pixel policy then?
3/11/2008 5:08:20 PM
nearly all manufacturer's are 3-year warranty, and newegg as a standard for all their LCD's adopted an 8+ dead pixels before they replace it.but i look for a heckuva lot more details about an LCD than just it's warranty and dead pixel replacement plan[Edited on March 11, 2008 at 5:22 PM. 3/11/2008 5:21:26 PM
Dead pixels annoy the crap out of me.
3/11/2008 5:37:05 PM
Ok, well spend a little money on a GOOD name-brand LCD and you won't have to worry about dead pixels.
3/11/2008 5:49:03 PM
Get a Dell monitor, they have the 1 pixel replacement policy. At least on 24" and 30". They are expensive compared to other similar sizes, but are nice. I'm running a handful of 24" Soyo's and I wouldn't recommend them if a dead pixel will annoy you. One monitor I have has 2 dead pixels, but the other two are clean as a whistle. And you don't have a problem till you hit this stage with computers. The lens on the left is worth the original cost of my motorcycle. The new lens I have, 2x the cost. My garage is filled with too many spare parts, tools and random crap.[Edited on March 11, 2008 at 7:39 PM. Reason : ]

FYI for anyone using Newegg individual reviews as a reference:Don't. The people (read: kids) who "write" their reviews are absolute retards and have no clue of what they are talking about (for the vast majority anyway). 10 minutes of actually reading them in any depth will make you want to shoot yourself in the face. Not to mention, I have some pretty serious doubt about the validity of ANY ecommerce site's "reviews". Most hardware review sites are independent of sellers for a very good reason.
3/11/2008 7:40:45 PM
i read reviews all the time, and it's very easy to tell the difference between a well informed individual and one who's not... so yes, i read the reviews, and if you know what to look for, it's quite clear who to believe.as far as hardware review sites, they aren't always clear cut unbiased, so if you want to just go ahead and tell everyone, take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt... well that should be a given.

I've been contemplating sticking some Infiniband cards in a few 1U's and running a serious distributed multihead X setup for a while. If you figure out how to stop , please pass along the tip
3/11/2008 8:00:52 PM
that takes some serious cash to do that with. Are you running a data storage center?

^^i've written a couple reviews for the egg and never have i ever gotten an email like that... there's plenty of 0/1/2 egg reviews on newegg, so i'm not sure why'd they do that.i'm not saying that they're good, but i'm saying there's a lot of people that do review the products that do know what they're talking about, probably just as many as the number of kids on there... and yes there are reviews that make you laugh.[Edited on March 11, 2008 at 9:13 PM. i saw newegg had a good deal on them the other day

Noen, I agree with you completely, yes, 50% of the reviews are kids saying nothing but this piece of hardware that my parents bought me is great and posting the review 1-day after getting it....I think what I'm saying here is you can't just say ALL end-user reviews are crap and ONLY base your opinion on hardware review sites. The problem I have with solely looking at hardware review sites is that they only review one unit and thus doesn't always see the problems that may appear in when 500+ units are sold in retail... the reviews from retail sites can help show the flaws in a piece of hardware that only show up in the masses (i.e. 5-10% of products having defects, or incompatibility issues, or specific nuances) that 100+ reviews from different individuals on a vendor site may show. And the fact that some of my reviews have been posted (yes I've had a couple that have not) shows that there are indeed actual people submitting some of the reviews posted. One example is memory, while I can go read all the reviews I want on hardware review sites, what they can't tell me is what timings are ideal for OC'ing on my motherboard... while I've seen numerous benefitial reviews that individuals post their timings/voltages, etc. that influence my buying decision more-so than a hardware review site would. My typical buying process:a) research the product-type so I know what specs to look forb) research the best brands and models to know which offer the best specs & features & reliabilityc) research specific brands/models on hardware review sitesd) see what other's have to say about the product whom have already purchased itYou can't just take one and throw it out the window.[Edited on March 12, 2008 at 6:14 PM. No, but you'd be stupid to believe everything you read on newegg reviews. If i see a product got 4 or 5 stars and something I'm interested in. I'd do other research on other sites for reviews to make sure it's something I want and value. But I mainly don't give too much thought about the newegg reviews since most is crap and sound like rants, even if they about something good. And for most customer based reviews, I'd rather get that from community sites. I'll search reviews on tech forums or ask questions there, such as tww. I do my homework when I buy shit.
3/12/2008 9:38:22 PM
^as do I, I don't think anyone here is saying that you should believe everything you read on newegg reviews[Edited on March 12, 2008 at 10:54 PM. Reason : .]
