so they don't rate off-road vehicles for off road capability and reliability doesn't factor in. Also, on several models, competing publications ranked them highly. makes me not want to put a whole lot of stock in this.

I like how they just arbitrarily don't include certain things in their scoring...

They should grade each car relative to how it performs in its category and pick the 11 worst cars with respect to their category overall. While many people don't take trucks or jeeps offroad, they still buy them because there's something they like about them (whether it's because it drives and handles like a little truck, because they're gay, or perhaps because they drove the previous version of the same vehicle and wanted another one). Definitely not a helpful guide when making car buying decisions.

Sorry but practically ever car on that lists deserves to be there because they're shit.

A lot of those cars are crap.

But, would anyone expect the yaris to be fast? or for an FJ to be quiet and ride like a caddy?

it always pisses me off when consumer reports rates say a corvette as having a "loud engine" or "too stiff a ride"

The criteria they use is stupid. Granted, many of the cars would still be on the list, but no one guys a yaris expecting good acceleration.

"Toyota Yaris (base, manual transmission)

Score: 36

Highs: Front access, turning circle, hatchback versatility

Lows: Acceleration, handling, vague shifter

The Yaris is the smallest and least expensive car Toyota sells in the United States. It actually ranks at the top of the list in both reliability and low cost of ownership, but those factors are not included in Consumer Reports' basic vehicle score.

The Yaris base model with an automatic transmission ranked higher, earning an overall score of 50."

14 points less because they tested a car without an automatic transmission.

Consumer Reports is the worst place on the planet to look for advice on a car purchase.

Everyone knows they've been paid off by certain companies more than once anyway. That magazine is pure garbage.
