It's either giving me "connection timed out" or "invalid username/password" every time I try and sign in. I know the username and password is right, it's the same one I've had for the past 10 yrs. When I try and go to the "forgot password" page it doesn't load.

reinstall aim
use deadaim as well
http://www.oldversion.com/ has a copy

I had that problem, teh only way I could fix it was to install the new version of aim
