i'm kinda surprised they picked asheville, uncg would be more apropos imo
3/7/2008 9:31:11 PM
greensboro is lower on the economic totem pole?
3/7/2008 9:32:30 PM
greensboro is the more established school
3/7/2008 9:33:16 PM
I don't think this is relevant to my interests
3/7/2008 9:33:45 PM
I agree about Greensboro. Plus, we have so many health systems and hospitals in Greensboro, not to mention the near-by winston hospitals.
3/7/2008 9:35:12 PM

3/7/2008 9:35:40 PM
i know they have a new law school
3/7/2008 9:36:53 PM
is it considered better than uncg?
3/7/2008 9:37:56 PM
yeah a med school at uncc has been "in the works" for years nowglad to see its finally going to happen2 state supported med schools isnt enough
3/7/2008 9:37:58 PM
i was under the impression that they would only do the preclinical years at the satellite UNC locations (Ashville and Charlotte), then come back to UNC-CH for the clinical years...
3/7/2008 9:38:22 PM
Just what we need.more goddamned doctors.
3/7/2008 9:42:04 PM

With the number of hospitals here and with the school's science background. I always expected that NC State would eventually add a med school.Guess not.
3/7/2008 9:52:34 PM
there's a shortage of lawyers too, so Chapel Hill should just let me in

3/7/2008 10:46:20 PM
those, imo, are the two best places for medical schools... if im wrong correct me... but dont the medical schools do the cutting edge and most advanced medical work... and if so... adding a med school in the western part of the state and in the state's top city only make NC that much more attractive for doctors and medicine and such
3/7/2008 10:50:50 PM
i like this thread
3/8/2008 12:28:16 AM
if state added a med school the triangle would have 3, don't think that's quite needed
3/8/2008 12:30:40 AM
I understand the one in Charlotte but what's up with the one in Asheville? It's not like those with medical degrees don't already want to practice there.Greensboro would have been the better choice.

ECU is gonna have to build new classrooms or something to accommodate that many more people...last i saw they had like 70 seats in the main lecture hall
3/8/2008 11:47:55 AM
The location of the professional schools in the UNC system is dictated by geography primarily. Therefore, State will never have a law school or a medical school despite its science focus. The UNC Board of Governors tries to provide a well-rounded education to all people of the state as close to their homes as possible.State run medical schools will now be at UNC, ECU, UNC-C, and UNC-A. Law schools are at UNC and NC Central. Veterinary school is at NCSU. MBA Programs are most everywhere because of their current popularity.

Yeah the quality of student wont go down, so you don't have to worry about someone fucking up your heart surgery, but the quality of person will go down, so that same person who did a great job on your heart surgery will be a complete asshole. But to the Lawyer comment, there are about 100 lawyers that graduate every year for every 1 medical student. There is also a shortage of doctors in the States. Probably because the lawyers are suing everyone into the ground and its not worth the risk to practice medicine anymore for a lot of people. Not saying docs shouldn't be held accountable, but ALL docs are paying for the well publicized mistakes of a few.
