There isn't a better station around. 100.7 is cool but sometimes it plays some whack shit.

I can occasionally pick up 106.5 when I'm closer to Asheboro (don't live in Raleigh). They have some decent rock sometimes, but it's not an exclusive rock station.

raleigh needs a good alternative station

something between 96rock and wknc

[Edited on March 7, 2008 at 10:45 PM. Reason : less classic rock and not 80% indie rock 95% of us haven't heard of ever]

96.1 were horridly generic

and then they tried to cover the 106.1 stuff after they got converted to the rooster

and somehow it got even worse

there are certain programs they have on the weekend that i don't mind

but most of it is a bad winamp collection

agreed...the new age soft rock indie thing that's popular right now might be cool for some cats, and i can understand why people like it, but i need some balls to the wall rockin out

thank god i've got shaw and foxy for some groovin

i dont get why raleigh doesnt have any good stations....only 2 stations i can even name in this area are 97.5 and 96.1....i know we got the 88.7 or whatever the ncsu station is but that typically sucks....is there any station that plays the stuff 106.1 use to play?

^that's 88.1 wknc the revolution - 88.7 is sumn different
and yea - 96.1 got all of wrdu's music apparently - if only they would play more than 12 of those cds

yeah 88.7 is wxdu...dukes college station...not bad station but the reception is very limited

89.3 is cool until it turns into "art" noise for 20 minute sessions

i also go through heavy periods of listening to nothing but 89.7...which is really one of the best classical stations i've ever heard

i used to listen to 90.7, but their signal has gone poopier over time

when i worked at the museum of art we had like 8 classical cd's to cycle through...well sometimes we'd put it on 89.7- one time we had a customer that wanted to buy what we had playing and we were like lol sorry thats actually a radio station

The funniest was when they did an all-request weekend awhile back, and people kept calling in wanting the same Van Halen and AC/DC songs they always play.

Being from around Charlotte, 96.1 was outstandingly refreshing. If you think it's generic, then you're just plain spoiled... when you compare it to the radio stations in most areas, it's actually got a good variety. You people complaining about it don't realize how good you have radio compared to everywhere else... in the southeast, anyway.

Around Charlotte, if you wanted to listen to non-classic rock on the radio, then you were listening to Nickelback. The fact that 96.1 actually plays other newer rock at all makes it seem like a golden god.

the radio in arizona was the shit. KFMA was my favorite, they played a lot of soundgarden and nirvana, butthole surfers etc songs that you never heard on the radio out here. but its all personal preference, i guess if werent in high school during that time then you probably dont care

plus i won their world cup of foosball during the world cup. nothing like a foosball tournament at an indian casino. RULZ

^^^Last time I was in that area of the country, I found the same sorts of things... radio that didn't just play the same generic stuff we'd all heard before, and ect. For some reason the south(east) has some of the worst radio in the country for people that like some kinds of rock other than classic.

There was one metal/alternative station that basically had the slogan of "We play whatever the hell we want." Did a lot of driving, found a couple things with variety, but that one was about all I kept on for long. It was nice having good music... Of course, around here, metal/alternative is about the last thing you're going to hear.

^^You mean Charlotte, marko? I moved away a while back, so I can't say that I do.

they call it the lower end for a reason... AH AH

ive got wake forest NPR and UNC NPR and some local black college talk radio (forgive me ive never listened that long. maybe winston salem state)

but i dont listen for music, thats why i have my mp3s and cds and all. i like my zany morning radio, then i like to avoid it all during the day (which is hard with all the radios in the office). then i like some NPR on the way home. i listen to the closest station NOT begging for money.
