Ooh ooh I have a good idea w/ what to do with the money. Live as frugally as you were before, making minor concessions for things that you REALLY REALLY wish you could've enjoyed before, then dump the rest of the money into a high-yield savings account and wait until you've got enough to live off of for about 6 months before using more of your current income for expenses/fun.It's my plan right now, though I'm currently in the frugal stage and trying to drift until summer (where I hope to get a good research job with my department). Not having money sucks so much that I'm just going to live for a good while like I don't have any until I have some big savings/a full time salaried position. Then I'll relax a bit.
3/7/2008 2:04:21 PM
Oh, no.Step one: pay off my debt It's not a lot, but dammit, it bugs me!

3/7/2008 3:07:38 PM
^^ I use mommy and daddy for that right now (BJ's, Costco, Sam's). They're in Cary so it makes it a bit easier. I haven't fallen into the coupon shopping habit yet, but I'm headed that way, haha.
3/7/2008 3:17:37 PM
Gotcha. My folks used to have sam's, but they're dropping it for costco.Coupons are FTW. Srsly.

I dont use coupons at at grocery stores, bfd about 35 centsI use them at restruants whenever its like buy 1 get 1 or something of significant valuethose entertainement books for charlotte have lots of great deals
3/7/2008 3:52:08 PM
^It really adds up. See the coupon thread in the lounge. Also helpful is that I avoid using my debit card whenever possible. Since one of my jobs pays cash every shift, I keep a bit of cash out for day-to-day stuff, and live off that. What's in my checking account is marked for bills. It's a lot more painful to hand over the cash that I can put a date, time, and place to when I earned it than it is to hand over my debit card
3/7/2008 4:32:36 PM
coupons yes. and sales. i basically only eat what is on sale with my vic or mvp card. i especially love buy one get one frees. at first i was like, but i don't need this much bread. and now i'm like, bread meet freezer.
