I'm in the market for some new sunglasses. I have to get polarized lenses...I drive for a living so I'm willing to spend a little bit for the glasses, just not going to throw money away.I used to have Wiley X glasses, but I believe I've misplaced them.I'm looking at some Oakley's.....but they just seem so darn expensive (maybe because I've never bought a pair before).

You probably should have put this in the lounge.

Sie braucht eine Sonnenbrille.

I have a pair of Costa Del Mar Fathoms. Polarized, blue reflective mirror coat on the outer lenses. They're pretty comfy, and I like them over the Oakley.http://www.costadelmar.com/store/BVModules/ProductTemplates/Costa%20-%20Product%20Layout/Product.aspx?productid=FA-CMATE

I always got the knock off Oakley's available at any metropolitan street cornetthey'd break and crack within a few weeks, but no big deal cuz its like 15 bucksAbout a year ago I got a pair of real Oakleys and they haven't broken yetThey were like 160 or so at one of those little stands in the mallI keep them in my car otherwise I'd lose them all the time[Edited on March 4, 2008 at 3:18 PM. Reason : I also got some Chanel's but I only wear those at night to coordinate with my outfits]
3/4/2008 3:16:53 PM
I got some Costa Del Mar's (turbine it think), they are my first pair of nice sunglasses, and they are quality. With sunglasses you definitley get what you pay for
3/4/2008 3:20:18 PM
i absolutely love my smith empires...got them on sale at REI for $20...came with grey lenses, brown lenses (great for driving) and yellow lenses (great for ANY low-light situation, and i do mean driving at night)
3/4/2008 3:20:38 PM
I have a pair of Arnetts that I really like. They are pretty comfortable and not that expensive. I recently got a pair of polarized Oakley Gascans. They are nice so far.

3/4/2008 3:37:08 PM
As much as i hate oakleys the one style i did like were the juliets.http://oakley.com/pd/1123But damn are they expensive!!!1
3/4/2008 3:42:42 PM
I've had raybans, smiths, natives, and persol. I have good things to say about all of them.I'd check out REI, and get a membership, if you don't already have one. You can return your purchases for any reason, at anytime. For instance if you buy a pair of sunglasses and they break 2 years from now, blamo, new sunglasses. This is where i've gotten my natives and smiths.[Edited on March 4, 2008 at 3:47 PM. Reason : oakleys are ugly as fuck/]
3/4/2008 3:46:07 PM
don't fuck with oakleysget costas, ocean waves, or ray bans...seriously, get a good glass lens, with a good warranty for just a little bit more than Oakleyssunglasses hut at south hills sells all of them at cost, I purchased my $230 Costa Del Mar Harpoons for $165 there
3/4/2008 3:51:11 PM
I have a set of Revo RE3010'sthey're fantastic glasses, but pretty damn expensive
3/4/2008 3:53:13 PM
Was that a sale colter? That's a hell of a steal.
3/4/2008 3:57:47 PM
thats the everyday price therethey print two receipts in case you have to return them
3/4/2008 4:00:23 PM
I've always had Costa's, but after learning about Native's warranty thats what I will be buying next.
3/4/2008 4:09:05 PM
maui jim's have the best lenses .... may i ask what you drive though? some new vehicles have polarized windshields thus 2x polarized makes weird spots and rainbows on things.
3/4/2008 4:23:13 PM
a VW beetle....I was thinking of buying some Crosshair's from oakley, make them custom and get polarizedhttp://oakley.com/pd/2064/5612Gun Metal Natives..http://www.nativeyewear.com/prod_details.php?style_id=15i would think Oakley's warranty would be better...but o well.$200 for the oakleys or $145 for the natives.
3/4/2008 4:35:17 PM
This is a little off topic but which direction should the polarization be oriented with sunglasses? I have some that I think are diagonally oriented. The sky is the most blue when I hold them at a 45 degree angle. Is this right? If not, should the sky be the most blue when oriented normally as you'd wear them or when the glasses are held up and down?

my eyes are really sensitive to light so i have to use really good sunglasses, after a lot of looking i settled on maui jim. they are better glass than just polycarbonate lenses, are polarized, and have an anti-glare coating on the inside unlike most other sunglasses. that keeps all that ghosting out when the sun is slightly behind and to the side of you. theyre well worth the money and not just flashy like the silly designer sunglasses. however if you found oakley's expensive you might want to keep looking.

Costas are awesome! Gave you the wrong link the first time. You can get the fathoms with glass lenses too.[image]http://www.costadelmar.com/store/BVModules/ProductTemplates/Costa%20-%20Product%20Layout/Product.aspx?productid=FA" target="_blank">http://www.costadelmar.com/store/BVModules/ProductTemplates/Costa%20-%20Product%20Layout/Product.aspx?productid=FA</a>Mine were glass with the blue mirror tint. They are the most comfortable glasses I have worn, and they won't slip off your face.<a href="photos/00493304.jpg[/image][Edited on March 5, 2008 at 10:56 AM. Reason : werds]

how does a company selling everything (most everything, anyway) at cost make any money?
3/5/2008 12:19:04 PM
I support Ray Bans. I like the classic look. They're like levi's, always in style. I have three pair and just picked up a new pair of the redesigned wayfarers (blues brothers glasses). I fucking love em.
3/5/2008 12:32:54 PM
dam thread got me lookin for replacements as I scratched the shit out of my oakley's right where my vision goes through. While I was looking around I couldn't help but laugh at what the hell this is forhttp://oakley.com/category/684
3/5/2008 1:55:10 PM
I don't know, Oakley's are just too flashy. Unless you're a beach volleyball player, I don't think they look right
3/5/2008 2:00:14 PM
natives!!!!, you can drive over them with your car and they will replace them
3/5/2008 2:03:05 PM
So will REI for any brand......
3/5/2008 2:12:28 PM
3/5/2008 2:25:21 PM
for anything like this, i'm a huge fan of REI...i think they jacked up their membership to $20, but if you spend $200 in the next year (really, ever) you'll make that back, and THEN you have REI standing behind you to replace anything you fuck up

just please don't be a tool and get the costas with the blue lenses unless you fish frequentlywith most polarized glasses, you really do "get what you pay for"maui jims are expensive, but their polarization is considered top notchrevos, which are upscale Raybans (same company), are just a short step belowof course there are others, but these are both very commonly available
3/5/2008 8:04:46 PM
good thing I go catfishing every summer or slaptit would kick my ass for wearing blue costas!
3/6/2008 3:57:39 AM
i have blue lenses, they make staring at water possible
3/6/2008 8:20:50 AM
i have the costa Brine with the tortoise shell frame and green mirror glass lens.best sunglasses i've ever owned. The fit my domepiece like a dream. great customer service too in repairing them. I crused them bad on the boat last summer when we were hustling back trying to beat a storm, shattered one of the lenses horribly. Sent them in the next week, 10 days later i had them back on my domepiece. I would repair again in a heartbeat.
