3/3/2008 10:10:53 AM
This has lawsuit written all over it.I'm sure that thing isn't titled or insured as a "vehicle for hire." So when he mangles that car trying to impress an 18 year old kid who paid $50 he is going to get pwnt by the passenger, insurance, and court system all at once.

Noen's goofy looking, but a much more attractive male. (no homo)Also, couldn't the weight of a guy that size break the car in half?
3/4/2008 8:17:11 AM
I test drove an Elise at the dealer last week, and can't say that I was impressed. I like Quinn's S2000 better to be honest. Somebody's trying to convince me that I drove the village bicycle of Elises, so I'm supposed to drive the Exige S sometime soon...Ahmet[Edited on March 4, 2008 at 9:13 AM. Reason : .]

I have to agree with you for once Ahmet, I got to take an Elise out in the country on some back roads and wring it out...wasn't hugely impressed. I mean, it was clearly faster than my S2000, but not enough to be worth the extra cost. And on top of that, it wasn't nearly as fun to drive IMHO, which could be the FR vs MR thing I guess.Plus, people who think the S2000 is a PITA to get in and out of need to try an Elise. God that door sill makes you look like a dumbass.
3/4/2008 9:22:02 AM
for both of you guys ^ and ^^If you weren't running over 4400rpm, you didn't even experience the car. Until the cam change, its pretty run-of-the mill. Out driving in the mountains here, I never go over 3rd gear and keep it wound up to 5 grand minimum, and it screams. If you are on a test drive, when you get out on I40, at about 60mph, drop it to 3rd gear, mash the gas to match the revs, and get ready to take off. Or turn off traction control, but be prepared because you'll spin it the first couple of times it breaks loose without it on. With it on, its so damn smooth losing traction, its like a video game. Drifting it around an on-ramp is like floating on water. Also, make sure you aren't driving an 05 model, the 06's and up had pretty dramatic improvements to several areas of the car.---------------------------And yes you look like a fucking retard getting out no matter what. I made my peace with that quickly. And no that's not my car, and someone should go rent that yellow one and take it up to the dragon or VIR for the day

I drove an 07, and wound it to it's redline. It barely needs traction control with that cute motor. My Volvo over steers easier than the Elise! The car's balanced well, but the slow steering ratio, and the gutless motor coupled with the cramped feel... Well, I like small cars but it didn't do it for me. I drove there in a GT3, and was underwhelmed by the whole experience. I'll reserve judgment on the Exige, but I'd never get rid of a GT3 for an Elise. Also, I think the S2000 is the better driving car. Now, after saying all that, I don't feel like I got to push the car around turns too much, the salesman was trying to get me to go 85 in a 25 zone (though cool guy, same dude as in the picture above), there aren't any good sweepers where I felt it'd be prudent to push the car hard. Feel free to let me drive yours. I ought to take one to a track day, but unless a good friend has one, that probably won't happen. Ahmet
3/4/2008 3:37:55 PM
ehh, they werent so impressive on track.of course its all driver and maybe the whole new car scare.but i still would love to track one

Noen can you fit a case of beer in your trunk?
3/4/2008 6:28:11 PM
The most I've fit in my trunk:4 racks of ribs, 8 ears of corn, 5 pounds of gummy bears, 3 stalks of collards, two six pack of beer, 3 40's of malt liquor, bottle of wine, couple loaves of bread, two wheels of Brie(sp?) cheese, a sack of potatoes, and a few other herbs and spices. You can fit a lot in there, just no single big items because the opening is like the size of a damn coke bottle
3/4/2008 6:42:46 PM
So you cant fit a case of beer in there?
3/4/2008 6:48:03 PM
it would be REAL tight. You could in the Elise though. I could fit like 4 18 packs for shizzle. The trunk opening in the elise is a lot bigger (same cubic feet though)

3/4/2008 7:17:08 PM
so this thread is saying that this car is for virgin nerds?
3/5/2008 2:19:54 AM
Look, I'm glad cars like the Elise exist. I think it's a very cool design, car looks hot, is lightweight, etc.I'm aware that if you're at the cornering limits of a vehicle, and overload the drive wheels with power (of which there's little w/an Elise) it will break those tires loose. Anything can be made to oversteer, and from my perspective, you'd have to come in way too hot to get any oversteer in the Lotus. The Elise I drove was neutral at best. I didn't come close to the cornering limits of the car, I'd be more than happy to do so under more sensible circumstances, again, want to let me drive yours? I had high expectations, they were not met. The car I drove was too soft, and the steering ratio is too slow. In contrast the brakes felt fantastic, in modulation and feedback. I'm not considering one, just good friends with someone that is (an Exige), but wouldn't be getting rid of the gt3 for it. I think he's nuts, so far. It's not in the least about power. I was hoping for a visceral experience, one that feels involving, etc. The Elise is so much more point and shoot than the interactive gt3, and I feel weird saying that, because that's not at all what I would've expected. Maybe I'm just jaded and biased though. The more I drive that gt3 the more I want one. I don't think I've ever been this satisfied with a car. Guessing if I drove an Elise at an auto-x course, I'd be thoroughly impressed. That was my introduction to the S2000, and I do like those a lot. Broken pavement and neighborhoods aren't exactly proper places to explore a Lotus... Ahmet
3/5/2008 3:06:54 AM
^yep. The lotus is an extrememly neutral car. Its very gokartish, point and shoot like you say. And I feel terribly sorry for you if you had to test drive it on roads like that, it can be pretty miserable in those conditions. As a former corvette owner, and having had the chance to drive much higher powered sports cars, it's definitely a completely different beast. You don't have to "tame it" or do a dance with the car to get it to play. It just does it's job to the last inch.Steering ratio too slow?? I really wonder if you even drove a real one. The GT3 (new ones at least) are 17:1. The elise is 15.8:1. It should be noticeably faster. The only way it was "too soft" is if you got in a severely ragged out base touring model. Yeah, anytime you want to come out to Seattle this summer, we'll go out in the mountains or to any of the tracks around and I'll let you hang it out (long as you bring that GT3 with you in trade )
3/5/2008 11:04:55 AM
I offered him $50 to drive it without him in the car. But got denied. Now its:
3/5/2008 12:47:54 PM
$250/day my ass, he's fucking crazy.
3/5/2008 2:32:06 PM
did Noen just compared a lotus to his saturn in handling capabilities. are u kidding me?
3/5/2008 3:51:05 PM
no, he was letting us know about the sharpness of a curve and the speed at which a typical car could take said curve
