What are your thoughts on this band? Personally I think they fuckin rock, took me just two listens of ALASKA and I was hooked. But I have noticed a lot of folks I talk to just think they are a little too eratic and won't give em a chance. I mean they are from Winston-Salem, NC that has to at least garner a little bit of love. Yes, No?

from a technical standpoint they are impressive, but i do not much care for them musically. i don't like metal as is, and i don't really think they bring much to the table other than the fact that, instrumentally, their songs are difficult to play.

I can see the point about the screaming vocals but it's just something you kinda get used to. They fuckin own live and the degree of difficulty is really impressive to me being a semi-musican. I am just a fan of really heavy shit...then a little break and some melodic stuff ala TOOl. And the lyrics are actually really good. Not your typical I want to rape a dead corpse and then shit on the family sort of vibe. I would give them a read.

and while I also agree that the first album was the dick, I am not ready to say it's better than the latest. Colors is just wonderful. But Mordecai is still my favorite song and its not on either album

I don't care much for Dream Theater, actually, but the other three get thumbs up.

Colors is sick, everything else they did is mediocre at best.

Colors is the only thing worthy of being on a tour with Opeth and DT.

Colors is sick but I suggest you listen to Alaska again my friend. It is a wonderful album, Roboturner being my personal favorite on the album. And as for DT I still to this day can't fully appreciate them because I can't stand the lead singers voice. The musicians are absolutely amazing.. some of the best in the industry in my opinion as far as talent goes but I can't stand his voice. It's funny I say this because that is one of the main gripes people give me as far as BTBM goes. Regardless, Glass Prision is an amazing song.

If anybody is interested in seeing these guys live they have two shows back to back in NC coming up April 9th and 10th. Greene Streets in G-Boro and Cat's Cradle. Gonna be at both for sure.

nice triple post in 3 minutes. you're a terrible failias.

I'll admit the only other btbam cd's i have are Alaska and Silent Circus, but they don't stand out from any other band with those cds. Sure there are a ton of great riffs, but nothing on those cds varies enough to the point that Opeth or Dream Theater's music does. Theres probably 30 other progressive metalcore capable of writing some of those exact same things. Colors is different though, seems like alot more time was put into it.

don't get me wrong, Ad A Dglgmut is probably my favorite BTBAM song.

yeah I know still getting used to this shit (insert generic NOOB comment here) I see your point with the variations but shit DT changes time signatures and puts in stuff there that I have never heard any band do. I would like some suggestions on bands that could do the same stuff as BTBM. Always down for new music...it's been the same stuff for me lately. TOOL and BTBM stay in such a steady rotation around my way.

btbam changes time signatures way more than DT or Opeth.

the DT time signature changes rarely change the riff, theres just like an extra repeat or omission of the last few notes of the riff half of the time. See: Glass Prison. Half that song is the same shit over and over again with offbeats / syncopation. To give the effect of time changing.
