2/27/2008 2:24:01 PM
he was a douche to his employeesother than that nice cars, thnx
2/27/2008 2:51:29 PM
i was under the impression that he was a douche because of the TV show and ratings.havnt heard much of how he was in real life
2/27/2008 2:52:18 PM
he was a nice guy, just liked to play "hard" joking around. i met him while touring his shop a few years ago, his personality seemed dead on as it was on tv.
2/27/2008 2:59:16 PM
Man, the car world lost a legend today. RIP.
2/27/2008 6:31:29 PM
definitely. personally not my style of rods he built, but the man was a genius fabricator and businessman. crass as is may be, i did have to laugh a little at one of the comments to that article.
2/27/2008 6:51:14 PM
eh, fuck weirdbeard. he hadnt gotten dirty in 20 years anyhow. his manager is a hoot though, that dude rocks.
2/27/2008 9:23:11 PM
weren't the majority of his award winning cars designed by chip foose? on the show it looks like they always turn out the same car over and over again
2/28/2008 12:39:16 AM
show sucked he was a dicktoo bad he died at 60. didnt get a chance to spend all his money
2/28/2008 1:05:37 AM
damn, that sucks
2/28/2008 10:00:29 AM
He might have been a dick but the man was a legend, the boydster was his cash cow and he built it over and over again but hes got some serious ones in his legacy.
2/28/2008 10:02:22 AM
even if he didn't do shit but run the business (he was hands on in the early years), it's impressive to build such a company and brand your own name. he was also involved in a lot of good causes.
2/28/2008 10:30:26 AM
What did he die of, thats a pretty young age. Cancer?
2/28/2008 1:26:39 PM
i think i saw that it was liver failure
2/28/2008 1:38:07 PM
He had a colon operation that he never recovered from.
2/28/2008 1:50:25 PM
I heard something about choking on dinner, going to hospital and somehow not recovering? That sounds wrong to me but that's the first thing I had heard besides this thread.
2/28/2008 2:11:09 PM
damn, thats too bad. I know one of his grandsons pretty well. Has or did have a hotrod shop in Raleigh.[Edited on February 28, 2008 at 9:01 PM. Reason : ..]

i read he was a lifelong diabetic and it was complications from a recent surgeryim pretty sure the tv show was far from accurate on his and many other employees' dispositions. our shop had consulted with dwayne (sp?) on some issues with a build we had, and he was hundreds of times beyond helpful and considerate compared with what we expected from seeing his behavoir on the show. i have a great deal of respect for boyd for what he has done for the evolution of the industry we love, where it was when he started, and where it is now in thanks to him and others...
