I totally forgot Cabrera is in Detroit now. He gets my vote for AL MVP instead of Ordonez -- I figure someone on that team has to win it.

If Duaner Sanchez comes back as healthy as he seems to be I think this team will win 100+. But I've been wrong before.

The Cincinnati Reds will win the World Series!
2/26/2008 8:52:40 PM
The goddam Mets are going to take it all. As much as I hate to say that, this is their year.
2/26/2008 11:08:53 PM
How far the Mets go is going to depend on their starting pitching. Johan will be money, but can Pedro hold up all year? Will we see the good Oliver Perez or the bad Oliver Perez (or the really really bad Oliver Perez)? They have a few holes in the bullpen too. That said, if they can stay healthy...they should win the division. I don't think Willie Randolf is that great of a manager, but the talent on that team should make up any mistakes as long as they keep their heads on straight down the stretch.

There are better teams in the AL, but overall I think the NL is better and there will be a lot closer records and races. The Astros are my sleeper pick to surprise everybody this year, but I didn't wanna go out on a limb and say they'd actually do it. And I probably overrated the Braves a little, but so what.
2/27/2008 4:23:21 PM
I think the NL is improving and probably has better pitching than the AL (especially with the addition of Santana and Haren) but to say it is better than the AL is quite a stretch... I think there are a great number of teams that have a chance to make the playoffs in the NL as opposed ot the AL though. And the Braves will be one of the better third place teams in recent NL history this year.[Edited on February 27, 2008 at 4:35 PM. AL EastBoston*New YorkTampa BayTorontoBaltimoreTampa Bay will surprise a lot of people if Kazmir is healthy and they DON'T sign Barry Bonds. Boston and New York are the default playoff picks. Until someone proves they can knock them off, they belong here. Baltimore will be the worst team in the league. AL CentralClevelandDetroitMinnesotaChicago WhiteSoxKansas CityEveryone is high on Detroit, but I'm not sold on their pitching. With the exception of Verlander, their starters were below average last year. They'll be able to outscore teams with mediocre pitching, but they'll struggle against teams with solid pitchers. Kansas City and Minnesota are a year or two away from being a solid team...yes, Kansas City. Cleveland was a game away from the World Series last season and only got better this offseason. AL WestLos AngelesSeattleOaklandTexasIt'll be a battle between LA and Seattle, but getting Hunter in the outfield and in the lineup will help tremendously. If Oakland can get and stay healthy, they could surprise. NL EastNew York*AtlantaPhilladelphiaFlorida WashingtonThe top 3 in this division could contend in any division in baseball. I don't think the Phillies staff can hold together long enough to outdo Atlanta or New York. Florida will be better than you think. NL CentralChicagoMilwaukeeHoustonSt. LouisCincyPittsburghChicago's got the pieces this year. The Brewers will take the division if their pitching stays strong, but I don't think it will. St. Louis has a ailing Albert Pujols and not much else. The Reds are a year away and the Pirates will never be good under their current ownership. NL WestArizonaLos AngelesColoradoSan DeigoSan FranI can't believe more people aren't picking Arizona. They were a young team last year and will only get better...not to mention they added Haren. Honestly, you could flip a coin here between the top 4 teams in this division. The only reason there won't be two wildcards here is because they'll beat each other to death in the regular season. Just saw that the Reds have Corey Patterson leading off. Dusty Baker: dumb manager or dumbest manager?
4/1/2008 4:39:38 PM
who would you have leading off, Keppinger?
4/1/2008 4:42:43 PM
Is his career OBP higher than .300? If so, I think he'd be a much better candidate than Patterson.[Edited on April 1, 2008 at 4:54 PM. Reason : ]

i dunno they just dont have a lot of speed to work with...i guess baker's philosophy is patterson is the best base stealer on the team...but that doesnt mean baker isnt still a dumb manager for many other reasons
4/1/2008 5:01:07 PM
Someone should tell Dusty that you can't steal first.
4/1/2008 5:01:58 PM
just checked...Freel led off for them most of last year...course he is now Patterson's backup...also its worth noting that the Reds suck but at least they have a decent closer this year (and a hellva 2nd baseman named Taco)
