What hours/availability?I have a program I'm working with now that is putting on a major event in Downtown Raleigh in April and they need an immense amount of help through the end of that month. Probably 20+ hours a week during the day. You'd need to be super organized and able to deal with a lot of various agencies who are working together to put on this event.PM me for more details if interested!

Hospitals arent preferable. Although the draw of some cute nurses is appealing. I don't want to expose myself to MRSA any more than I already am.Any one else with input?

lots of nonprofits are always looking for volunteers. it might be helpful if you had any particular areas of interest in mind... what kind of organization are you looking for? what kind of work are you interested in doing? menial task type volunteering, or do you have any kind of special skills that you'd want to put to use?

^^ yay! thanks!i was just wondering (and i know there was some talk up there about it, back in 2008) if anyone has volunteered at any of the local hospitals (specifically rex, wake med, and duke--especially duke).if so which hospital? what did you do? how long (in general were you a volunteer, and how many hours per week)? and was there a reason why you were volunteering? (just because, needed hours, wanted it for resume, planning on going to grad school in healthcare, etc)[Edited on May 14, 2009 at 4:09 PM. Reason : .]

One arena in the realm of that I know a little about is volunteering is animal care.Animal Shelters can usually use volunteers. You could walk dogs, answer phones, play with kittens, fill up food & water bowls, or whatever else they might need you to do. I work at a vet clinic, and we have a sophomore from NCSU volunteering for the summer with us, but I'm not sure if many vet clinics are open to volunteers, interns, and shadowers as we are... but my impression of animal shelters leads me to think most of them are.I do a lot of my clinic's marketing and event organizing, and its not unusual for the tables we set up & man for our clinic to be placed by one for an animal shelter with volunteers showing dogs that are up for adoption.Independent Animal Rescue is one option. And most counties have animal shelters & websites.http://www.animalrescue.net/volunteer[Edited on May 14, 2009 at 4:32 PM. Reason : .]

^^, ^ those ideas are GREAT for other people looking to volunteer i bumped the thread to specifically ask about hospitals (not vet hospitals - been there, done that. A LOT ) and to see if anyone has had experience as a volunteer at a hospital (specifically as a regular volunteer not just a once in awhile volunteer). anyway i guess i also bumped it because it is interesting to know what other people are doing (volunteer wise). i always like to hear about new things/opportunities.

ok so i sent away for volunteer info from a couple of hospitals like...probably 3 weeks ago and still nothing. are hospitals like full of volunteers or something? surely not. maybe training is only certain times of the year or something.anyway, just got the hospice of wake county newsletter and they always want volunteers. and it would be really rewarding. they have several training dates this summer (you have to do 14 hours of training - for family support volunteers i think, though other opportunities are available). thought i'd share. this is something i'm totally interested in except that by the time i completed the training, it'd be time to go back to school (which is fine except i'm in another city so that doesn't work), so meh. but i thought i'd share the link for everyone else:http://www.hospiceofwake.org/pages/22/Volunteers-Opportunities/
